Just happened to see that this exhibit was in Indy when we were. I had seen a documentary about Ai Weiwei and managed to cram a visit into a very packed weekend. It did not disappoint. Featuring over 30 works spanning more than 20 years, Ai Weiwei: According to What? explores universal topics of culture, history, politics, and tradition. Not only does he explore but he forces the viewer to explore some very difficult subjects. We were able to catch a docent led tour which added another dimension of information as well as further insight into this rather complex artist. The exhibit is in Indy thru July 21, 2013. I highly recommend it.

First visit to museum. Went for an hour & spent the day. Greeted at welcome desk by friendly host offering helpful information about the museum & said "their exhibits were extensive." Indeed! Thoroughly enjoyed the well-laid out interior and then walking through the lovely gardens. A thank you for Indianapolis' appreciation of the arts.

This family-friendly museum has wonderful, diverse art, beautifully lit and displayed, and is free except for special 'featured exhibits' (Chinese dissident Ai Weiwei ongoing thru 8/21; last saw his work in Oxford, UK, and NYC!). The museum has an excellent cafe with creative, healthy choices, and great views of the surrounding beautiful, extensive park/grounds. Indianapolis is a sometimes under-appreciated city by non-Indianans; we've had excellent experiences there on visits over several years. Many fine, affordable restaurants, some of America's best (and least crowded museums (Children's, and Eiteljorg, to name just two others), and friendly people. Worth a journey!

Enjoyed a beautiful, easy hike today around the lake at 100 acres art park. We also walked around the formal gardens near the Lilly House which were absolutely beautiful. Would definitely recommend making the time to explore the grounds outside of the museum.

My husband and I just visited today, and it was a wonderful trip! We toured the Lily house and grounds... absolutely beautiful! I'd say for $5 parking and free admission, there's no better place in Indy to spend your time!!!
