The IMA is a wonderful, very large art museum. The special exhibits are awesome. Every sort of art you can imagine is on display. Make sure you get there early and spend the whole day!

The IMA is a fascinating, diverse, something for everyone place to go. You can easily spend a whole day there and not see everything. New exhibits are brought in regularly so it is always fun to see what has changed. I love walking through the Lily House and the grounds are cared for meticulously. It is always a wonderful place to visit.

I've been to several art museums. Indianapolis tends to have a bit smaller attractions than some cities, but this museum makes up for its size in the quality. I always find something new to see.

A less well published feature of this great free museum are docent led group tours. There are standard docent tours or you can get a group together and design your own. For the personalized tours you sign up online with a group and some advance notice for these free custom tours. Our Bible Study small group looked for some understanding of history and art on the topics of heaven and hell. To start, we requested a personalized group tour on the topic using the exhibits at the IMA. A free docent worked to put together a tour that fit our group's interests with the exhibits at the IMA. The docent managed to include items like the Chinese Emporor robes with celestal symbols, Yoruba dynasty art and the classic European masters with Christ at the cross with a demon gaining the robber's soul death eater style. Even the Harry Potter fans would find this painting interesting---centuries before J.K. Rowlings. If you are traveling in for a convention or family gathering, this would make a great alternative activity in an Indianapolis trip. And its FREE!

All kinds of Art, great food in Cafe and super gorgeous grounds. Plus the new Art & Nature Park off White River Parkway just west of Museum off 38th Street with 8 contemporary art installations and a pretty Lake & wooded paths next to Canal & Museum. This Art Museum has 5,000 yrs of art history with revolving exhibits of contemporary on 4th Floor. Plus interesting docent-led tours every day.....All for FREE. Just 5$ to park if you are Not a member. Well worth a visit; don't rush through. You need to allow some time to really look around at all 4 floors. Or just return.
