“Special Interest Tours at the IMA”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 22, 2011

A less well published feature of this great free museum are docent led group tours. There are standard docent tours or you can get a group together and design your own. For the personalized tours you sign up online with a group and some advance notice for these free custom tours. Our Bible Study small group looked for some understanding of history and art on the topics of heaven and hell. To start, we requested a personalized group tour on the topic using the exhibits at the IMA. A free docent worked to put together a tour that fit our group's interests with the exhibits at the IMA. The docent managed to include items like the Chinese Emporor robes with celestal symbols, Yoruba dynasty art and the classic European masters with Christ at the cross with a demon gaining the robber's soul death eater style. Even the Harry Potter fans would find this painting interesting---centuries before J.K. Rowlings. If you are traveling in for a convention or family gathering, this would make a great alternative activity in an Indianapolis trip. And its FREE!

“Art: something for everyone”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2011

All kinds of Art, great food in Cafe and super gorgeous grounds. Plus the new Art & Nature Park off White River Parkway just west of Museum off 38th Street with 8 contemporary art installations and a pretty Lake & wooded paths next to Canal & Museum. This Art Museum has 5,000 yrs of art history with revolving exhibits of contemporary on 4th Floor. Plus interesting docent-led tours every day.....All for FREE. Just 5$ to park if you are Not a member. Well worth a visit; don't rush through. You need to allow some time to really look around at all 4 floors. Or just return.

“Great Museum plus more”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2011

Great museum, with a very nice mix of different genres and media. The art was exceptionally presented with nice spacing, lighting, and easily approachable information. Save some extra time to walk around the expansive grounds/trails, etc.

“Museum is even better than I remember”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2011

This museum is such a pleasure. Beautiful works of art, extremely helpful information desk folks and a wonderful gift shop. I loved coming here when we lived here years ago and had the pleasure of visiting again on a 3-day weekend in Indy. What an asset to the cultural life of Indianapolis as well as Indiana.

“Unexpected Gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2011

Wonderful museum with many "unknown" works by well-known artists (Turner, Stuart, Renoir, etc.). Easy layout to get around and set within relaxing park/garden space.
