Been going to the track since the early '70's. We'll be there this May, will you?
There are track & museum tours most of the year. But the month of May...Qualifying, Fast Friday, Carb Day are what it is all about.

“Racing enthusiasts and for people who want to experience month of May in Indianapolis.”
Reviewed April 16, 2014 via mobile

I am 43 now. My first time at IMS I was 17. Great day to skip school and enjoy sunshine.lol. Now that I am older to sit in the stands and be entertained by great bands, and to hear Jim Nabors sing Back Home In Indiana brings tears to your eyes. Sadly I hear he will not be singing anymore. To see these world famous drivers is pretty great. If you get a chance to ever enjoy race from a suite: Do It!!! Its incredible. I've enjoyed it all over that place. Nothing beats hearing those engines roar.

“One of a kind.”
Reviewed April 16, 2014

Even if you are not a racing or even sports fan, this place is worth a visit. With approximately 235,000 seats lining the 2.5 mile track, you won't see any place like this any where else. Built in 1909 and with the Indy 500 mile race nearing its 100th running (2016) this is where past, present and future collide (no pun intended). Track and grounds tours are very popular, particularly the grounds tour which offer visits to the yard of bricks (finish line) and some "behind the scenes" facilities rarely seen by fans attending the races. The museum itself ($5 admission) has an extraordinary collection of cars, both race and other varieties. One slight drawback: this is not a very interactive museum. Stay outside the ropes and no touching. Consequently, small children may not have as much fun as older children. There is, though, a race car they can get in and have their picture taken. Cameras are welcome. Very handicapped accessible. FULL DISCLOSURE: I live in Indianapolis and love this place.

“If you've been then you know If you haven't , you gotta see it”
Reviewed April 15, 2014

Been to 30+ Indianapolis 500s and every brickyard 400 since the first in 1994. Some races are definitely better than others, but the experience is always way worth the trip. The facility is so big with so much history, it's an experience you can't explain. Even if your not a race fan, you gotta go at least once. Bring your own coolers full of food and drinks, and make your own party. All the seats are good, but seats outside high in the turns are best. Call some friends, make the call, order some tickets. You will have many stories to tell.
