We traveled with friends and stayed in our caravans at the camp ground behind the hotel.
Great location right on the river. Plenty of big, shady trees.
Would advise to get there early during the summer as this is a very popular camp ground.
There is no charge to stay here but there is a charge for the showers. You purchase a token from the hotel so if you want an early shower, you have to make sure you have your token the night before!
Hotel provides fantastic meals at reasonable prices.
Lots of people stayed while we were there but there were no problems with behaviour or noise.

The food at the hotel was extensive and very good quality and good size. All the staff were very friendly and the locals just as accommodating. There are two types of accommodation the cabins which we stayed in were comfortable and very clean, reverse cycle air on, fully self contained and right on the river is a free caravan site, with showers and toilets.

Room Tip: We stayed in the house that had three bedrooms, larger than the cabins, plus it had a verandah with a view of the river.

This hotel is in a great setting and has a golden opportunity to cater to the campers on the reserve below the hotel.

The first disappointment was the dreadful wine offered at $7,50 a glass. The first offering was a local shiraz cabernet from a local winery at Walwa. It was as sweet as port and my look of disgust prompted the comment from the publican that "I dont know anything about wine". He wanted our opinion and to his credit listened and offered a replacement. About the only choice apart from the "house red" i.e. red straight from the cask, was a Jamisons Run shiraz, again at $7.50 glass but at least it is drinkable.

I am not a wine snob nor do i claim a great knowledge, but please, find someone who can put together a few moderately priced, drinkable wines. This area is right on the edge of the country's great wine areas and you are getting a steady stream of travellers who want to relax with glass or 2 followed by a good meal.

The food is standard pub fare -fish and chips, oysters kilpatrick etc but the sauces are straight from the bottle and there is nothing subtle about their application. The kilpatrick sauce was heated up worstershire sauce poured over everthing. They are relatively expensive.

This is a blokey pub with no comfortable chairs to sit and relax say in front of the fire.

The hotel offers showers to travellers at $4 for 4 minutes in corrugated iron cubicles. It is a throwback to the primitive facilities found in caravan parks 30-40 years ago.

Until the food and drink improve, I recommend you bring and cook your own.

We decided to go for a drive and ended up at Jingellic. Stop by the pub as I had noticed the reflections in the water from the bridge...being a bit of a photographer this appealed to me. Took some photos, at the right time of day it would be ideal unfortunately we were there at midday so light was really harsh. Stopped by the pub and was going to order something but noticed quite a few people still waiting for their meal so we decided to give it a miss. From the menu the prices looked a bit steep but as I said we cannot comment on the quality of the food as we did not eat anything....we were really after a coffee but there was nothing on the menu stating that they sold coffee so again we decided to bypass and head to Tumbarumba.

Would stop there again purely for the camping grounds...they really are sublime especially when the trees are turning colour.

We were on motor bikes and stopped for a coffee, it was a great little pub, the staff were great and gave good service, the service was very quick and with a smile, very informative and happy to help, the food that we ordered was great we didn't hear anyone complaine about the food that they had ordered the place was very clean inside and out, the amenities were very clean and well stocked. We will make more time to stop a lot longer next time its a lovely spot to stop, they have plenty of room to spread out lots of benches and tables but not cluttered inside and out, very clean outside areas to sit and soak it all in. The grounds are well kept with plenty of places to sit you can stroll down along the river and plenty of places to go fishing as well as a lot to look at it has a very good little camping ground with easy access it is about 1 klm in from the road so no sound of passing traffic just running water and the wild life, would be a great place for the photographer.
