“Beautiful and historic”
Reviewed September 28, 2012

This is a beautiful hotel with lots of history. Six trains a day from Chicago were coming into this hotel for gambling and healing hot springs in the 30's. Lots of famous people have been to this hotel. There is a shuttle to take you to another historic hotel 5 min away. It has a free standing dome that is like no other. I have taken friends from England and other cities to see these hotels. There is golf, horseback riding, spas , winery nearby, nice shops, a great getaway for busy people. There has recently been a indoor waterpark put in across from the hotel.

Room Tip: Stay in the Spring Wing(bigger room) and go thru the week if possible or when school is in session.

We stayed there the week-end of 9/8 with my husband and 2 children. Our room was nice, clean, nicely decorated and the beds were very comfortable. We had a view on the outside pool. The only downside to where we stayed (spa wing) was a tiny little elevator and no other way on our floor. The wait for the elevator was sometimes a big aggravating, but we tried to not focus on that detail during our stay.
We enjoyed horseback ridding, using the sports facility to play tennis and basketball and renting bikes the following morning. Beautiful trail to follow on the horseback ridding (we did 45 min), lots of deers just grazing a few feet away along the path, good horses and nice staff. We enjoying our bike tour as well. The way the paths are marked depending on the distance that you want to cover, is nicely done as well.
The gardens are so well manicured and are beautiful. The decor is breathtaking inside the hotel....actually both...since you can go visit the sister hotel Westbaden and use its amenities as well.
We ate at the 1875 steakhouse for my husband's birthday and enjoyed the service as well as the food.
We used the indoor pool at the West Baden because ours was closed due to some renovations. We drove there and easily parked. The indoor pool at the West Baden was absolutely breathtaking.
The only downsides we experienced were the indoor pool being shut down, the lack of available parking space in front of the hotel entrance (which leads you to park further away, closer to the casino), and our elevator. I could have given the rating an excellent, however, those details made me go down to a 'very good'.
I would definitely go back with hubby and try the West Baden. I would also like to go in the midst of the fall colors, which probably would make the scenery fantastic around the resorts!

Room Tip: Did not use the SPA amenities...prices were just outrageous ;( A room away from the SPA aisle would...

The hotel is located next to the casino. There are several restaurant choices. The outdoor pool is very nice with service poolside.

The rooms are nice but they do not provide robes. That was a bit of a let down. The bath is spacious and well appointed. The water was very soft making rinsing the shampoo and soap difficult. Water pressure is adequate.

All the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful.

Check in was quick. We did have reservations. This is a very family friendly. We saw lots of children.

French Lick Resort was the perfect weekend getaway destination. The resort is absolutely beautiful! The resort had great service and was very, very clean. The grounds were also very pretty. The casino and the band playing in the evening made for great evening entertainment.

Our family just spent 5 nights at the French Lick Resort over the Labor Day weekend. Overall, the place is wonderful. Even though hurricane Isaac was giving us gloomy skies, there was enough to keep us busy every day. The indoor tennis courts were FREE to play on and they were available every time we wanted them even with a near 100% occupancy at the resort. The indoor pool was being refurbished but our room key got us into the indoor pool at West Baden Springs hotel. With free shuttle service to any of the 4 golf courses, any restaurant, or any activity, what's not to like? We aren't gamblers so the casino was not a draw for us. Apparently, it is for many others. We couldn't find a parking place on Saturday night in the outdoor lots or the 4 story parking garage. The place was hopping. Live music all weekend long, a sidewalk sale at the shops, great choices of dining venues, and a staff that handled our 3 bicycles with a smile every time we were done riding puts this place near the top of our "will return" list. Our 24 year old son even said he had a great time. Our only negative comment? Our room was on the small side. No big deal. This place has a fantastic story to tell. Go and be amazed. We were.

Room Tip: We got one of the last rooms available. Just ask for the larger ones.

We stayed in a double queen room and after a long day of traveling we settled into our room. The beds were the most comfortable I have experienced at a hotel or bed and breakfast in years. Fell asleep immediately and woke with no aches and pains. It was great.

Room Tip: Some have showers and some have bathtubs. Make sure you request your preference when you book.

What a great place to relax and escape from the fast pace of life! The staff treats you like someone special. The grounds are gorgeous and great for walking. The rooms are always spotless and comfy. I wasn't ready to leave.
