I have been taking my kids here since they were babies and, as teens, they STILL like to go!

This zoo has an easy-to-follow layout and beautiful grounds. There is always something to see, without "dead space". Areas include: the Main Zoo, the African Journey, the Indonesian Rainforest, the Australian Adventure, and the Indiana Family Farm. The layout is very stroller-friendly and strollers and wagons are available for rent.

My favorites in the African area: the huge pelicans and the hyenas. You can also feed giraffes ($1) from an elevated platform. The Sky Safari ride is like a ski-lift, you get on while it is moving (though they will stop it, if necessary). The only safety restraint is a bar across the lap, so extra-squirmy kids should ride with an adult. Note: the Sky Safari doesn't go over the top of any animals.

In the Indonesian area: pull out some drawers in Dr. Diversity's lab (over by the microscope) - you will see giant insects! We also like to watch the orangatans and the komodo dragon. Kids will enjoy the "tree house" which is a little walkway for kids only. Note: This area is also where you will find the carousel which features endangered animals, instead of the usual carousel horses.

Favorites from the Australian area: The jellies in the Great Barrier Reef exhibit are calming to watch. Also cool - you are able to walk though an area where the kangaroos hop right across your path! My kids still enjoy the River Ride (a boat ride where your boat is shaped like a hollow log). Note: The bats in the Australian area are interesting, but beware of the smell!

The final area is the petting zoo. We sometimes skip this area (as my kids are older now), but it is good for getting pictures of little kids with goats. You can pay $1 for goat food, but if you don't want to spend the money, kids can brush goats for free. Across from this area is a gazebo where you can feed ducks, geese, and fish. You can buy food for $.25, but we always bring stale bread from home.

Another tip: Most of the rides are $2/person. If you plan to ride several rides, you can purchase a Ride Pass for $20. This is a punch card that allows you (or your group) 12 rides for the price of 10. Note: The Ride Pass cannot be used on the Pony Ride (which costs $4).

billed as one of the best Children's zoo's in America, the FW Children's Zoo is a wonderful Zoo with a number of local and global regions covered with the animal collection here. Fun for the family with train, sky ride and an old fashioned Carousel to ride.
