“Nice property, comps horrible”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2010

Never had a quibble with Belterra -- until now. The room was nice, the marble baths are wonderful. But, If you are a gambler, they don't much value your business. The comp structure sucks.

Two of us gambled 14 hours over two days and earned -- drum roll, please -- $8 in comps for all that action. We charged a couple of meals to our room during our two-night stay and, upon checking out, asked if they could comp a meal. The desk clerk checked via phone and then informed us that no, we had not earned a free meal.

For 14 hours action over two days by two people? You can't comp a lousy $20 buffet breakfast? Really? Way to drive away people, Belterra. If you want to gamble, go elsewhere. Belterra doesn't value you ...

We splurged for our anniversary and it was OK but nothing exceptional. For the price of this hotel we expected alot more. There was really nothing outstanding, everything was expensive and extra. There was nothing included, the beds were just average nothing plush like you would expect for this caliber of hotel.

Belterra Casino Resort/Spa is one of four casinos between Cincinnati and Louisville (if you follow the Indiana side of the Ohio River from Lawrenceburg, IN. to New Albany, IN. These (Hollywood in Lawrenceburg, Grand Victoria in Rising Sun, Belterra in Florence and the Horseshoe in New Albany) compete for the gambling dollars from SW Ohio, SE Indiana and various parts of KY).

Belterra has great incentives and package deals to get you to the hotel and casino. You can buy a $90-$100 package that includes a nice room for one night and $100 in comps which can be used at the restaurants, buffets, and shops.

Some rooms are better than others. Ours was great. I think it was in the newer section.
It's a nice walk from the room to the casino, but who doesn't need to walk more?

Pros of the stay--great four star restaurant onsite. Best steaks ever. Buffet was better than any of the other three casinos listed above. Staff was very nice, friendly. Room was superior to Horseshoe and Hollwood--bathroom was great, with separate shower.

Pros--Slot machines were as loose as any, and there were many new ones. Casino staff was very nice, probably the friendliest of any along this stretch of the river. $5 tables were available. The also have the best entertainment, most likely because they have the biggest concert hall/exhibition area for the bigger stars. You'll enjoy looking at all the signed guitars in the area outside the concert hall.

Cons--Casino was very smokey, and non-smoking area was small. Planned on playing poker, but only two tables going when our group was there. We remembered from years ago they had more tables and offered more games. Actually, half of the poker room was converted to the non-smoking slots area I mentioned above.

Overall, you'll love the buffet, especially the desserts. The steakhouse is pricey, but remember you'll have a coupon toward either it or several buffets (breakfast, lunch, dinner). The casino can get crowded and smokey, but you have to deal with that at all of them.

It's not the easiest place to get to, but easier than it used to be now that they have built a new road from I-71 to it. Caution--don't speed along this stretch of the road (that was a tip from one of the employees at the casino).

I re-visited this casino as as result of the recent reviews on TripAdvisor. I read ALL the reviews on this site before I plan a trip, and find TripAdvisor really does help make choosing the best place so much easier.

We booked a one night hotel, and tickers for Bill Engvell comedy event online at the Belterra website. We checked in easily and found a nice room with a very comfortable bed overlooking the front of the hotel checkin area. It was quiet and I appreciated that feature. I did not like the very short tiolet in the bathroom. The toilet placement is so low that you would usually find a toilet like this in a grade school bathroom. BELTERRA, please fix this bad bathroom feature. Belterra bathrooms do not offer a handrail to be able to utilize to get off the toilet that is this short. Rather weird!

I think whomever did the design in the hotel and in the dining areas think shorter people are the only visitors to their casino facilities. The chairs are also very low in the diining faciilities too. Simply why is this?

The hotel room is looking dated and is in need of a makeover now please keep this is in mind!

Dining in the buffet was very good both on Saturday night and on Sunday morning. THe food was very good for this kind of dining venue. Better than most cruise ships buffett setups. Would like to see though a better quality on the ice cream please! Way too soft.

Our package deal includedf a $50 dining credit and two tickets to see Bill Engvall. Bill's show was evcellent and well worth the money for his tickerts.

I just wish the hotel rooms were better at Belterra and the price for the rooms were more reasonable for customers based on the state of the rooms and what I can obtain at other casinos at this time in the area. The price is just too high right now. Find a way to make more comfortable seating throughout the casino, rooms and restaurants! The casino area is very smokey and was so busy that it was hard to find a machine slot open after the concert let out. So we had to wait to be able to get back to the casino on Sunday morning.

The hotel is nice for the area with good restaurants and bars and of course the Casino. For this last stay they put me in a smoking room despite me having a confirmed non smoking room. They had tried to freshen the room but I did not sleep well in there. I complained and got moved to a nice room the next day which was non smoking but the first night experience spoiled the stay.

If you are a smoker go for it, otherwise check they are not close to full before booking.

My husband and I and some friends visited Belterra in July, as we have several other times this summer. The room is always wonderful. The bed is always comfortable, usually good view, and the bathroom is always clean. We usually go to the buffet and we all think they have really improved on the food. The casino is for me the luckiest casino I have ever been in and we go to many casinos all over the country. We usually have a comped room so that makes it sweeter. I don't believe what others have negatively said about Belterra. It is a great place.

My two girlfriends and I went to Belterra in early July. We just wanted a quick birthday celebration getaway. None of us are big gamblers, per se, we just wanted to have some fun time and hang out and visit. None of us had been to the hotel before.

The decor of the rooms is pretty standard. If you like velour, you're in the right place. The rooms looked pretty worn, but are clean and spacious. You have to walk a country mile to get anywhere - from the front desk, to the room, to the pool, to the casino...you'll get your exercise in.

We started out at the pool, which is OBVIOUSLY NOT where the hotel wants you to hang out. It is about the size of a large pool that would be behind someone's house and it was packed. There were not enough chairs (much less lounge chairs) so we were forced to a. find a towel (none in the clean towel holder - but alas, there is a bag of them on the ground!) and b. find a space on the concrete to put the towel. Then the hunt is on, everyone on the ground is feverishly waiting to pounce on anyone's chair that leaves. THe pool was filled to the brim with mostly upper 20ish boys/men, all of whom were drinking beer and few of whom left the pool in the 6 hours we spent outside. Let's put it this was - there were at least 100 people by the pool drinking and there was never a line to the one stall bathroom that was by the pool. We affectionately called it the "Adult baby pool." Another "winning" part about the pool was the mid 50's couples that felt the need to make out in the pool. Then there was this older guy who had, oh, about 15 college age girls hanging all over him and doing shots with them. And just to make it an ever more pleasant experience, you have "security" (think Paul Blart) coming around every 5 minutes asking you if you have alcohol in your cooler. Now, picture this, I have a small cooler, that on a good day will hold 12 beers. It had about 2 in it - we bought all of our drinks from the bar (don't even get me started on that) and we were repeatedly harrassed about it. The boys on the other side of the pool HAULED IN (seriously, 2 of them had to carry it) a full size cooler and they were never approached.

Ok, enough about our lovely poolside experience. We had reservations at Jeff Ruby's restaurant at 9:15 (earliest we could get in). It was a delightful meal, which is should have been as it cost in the neighborhood of $100+ per person. Yikes!

I meandered through the casino - it was packed. I decided to get an ice cream cone at Ben and Jerry's - single scoop strawberry - 8 bucks.

The three of us agreed - would never go back to this place. If you are not a golfer, a gambler or someone who has a ton of money to blow on a 4 ounce steak, this is not the place for you.
