I've seen concerts as well as enjoyed the zoo! It is a good activity to plan with a group, all ages.. And won't hurt a budget

“New Rain Forrest Exhibit”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

A new addition to one of Indiana's oldest zoo. The Amazonia Rain Forrest exhibit is very well done with a natural setting and botanically very interesting. Perfect place to go in the winter and feel the warm humid tropics. You will see waterfalls and a river runs through it. Underwater viewing of piraña, alligators, turtles, and tropical fishes. The Jaguar is my favorite, he can go outside through his kitty door. The rest of the zoo is wonderful in the summer months too. Take a shady stroll situated on rolling hills. The kids can cool off in the spray fountains at the end. Very nicely done!

“Fun for the family”
Reviewed January 22, 2013

We have been visiting Mesker since I was a child. The staff truly cares about the animals and it's very evident with each visit. One caveat: I miss the Monkeys on the ship and the jag cam. The monkey ship is very sad these days as it was a favorite exhibit when I was a child and now it sits, looking forlorn.

That said, Amazonia is beautiful and I could spend hours there and not see all of the beautiful flowers. I love that they are open year-round and enjoy going as often as possible when I am in town.

“Interesting Collection”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

As with many US Zoos today, Mesker Park has made descisions of what and what not to do with its animal collection. So, for instance, one will not find elephants here.
On the other hand, typical of zoos belonging to the AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) this zoo's collection has a strong representation of conservation-signficant species, most of which are indcluded in cooperative propagation programs involving zoos accross the country: Greater One-horned Rhinoceros, Borneo Gray Gibbon, Swamp Deer (Barasingha), Blanding's Turtle, Goldie's Monkey, a breeding pair of Hyacinth Macaws, Asian Forest Tortoise, Cotton-topped Tamarins, South African Blue (Stanley's) Cranes, Siberian Tiger, Great Curassow, Aldabra Tortoise, Sand Cat, Baird's Tapir, Amazon Giant Side-necked Turtle, Pygmy Slow Loris, and Clouded Leopards. The recently arrived Szechuan Takins were not to be seen the day I was there, and the Coqueral's Sifakas were put on display just after my September visit.
There are also quite a variety of animals which, while not presently of conservation concern, are not seen all that often in today's American Zoos: Springbok, Klipspringer, Sitatunga, Flag-tailed Prochilodus (a South American fresh-water fish), Long-tongued Fruit Bat, Southern Prehensile-tailed Pocupine, Rainbow Boa, Northern Pied Hornbills, White-nosed Coatis, Springhaas, Marine (Cane) Toad, and others.
One can easily spend more than three hours here, and there is nice mix of indoor and outdoor exhibits for viewing in all sorts of weather.

“Boo at the Zoo”
Reviewed November 14, 2012

Every October the zoo holds "Boo at the Zoo" after normal hours. Come dressed for Halloween! They have a path that is lined with sponsors handing out candy ranging from banks to avon & thirty-one. The zoo also has some pets that the kids are allowed to touch. Snakes & lizards aren't my thing, but the kids like it. We have been for the past 5 yrs at least. It seem to be getting smaller each year, but is still nice. Go early & the lines are long, but wait to late and the Amazon exhibit will be closed! All in all it's fun!
