“Lakeshore Grill is now the Flipping Cow”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

The Lakeshore Grill was a wonderful little restaurant - great sandwiches, GREAT fries. Sadly, the owners decided that they needed fix something that was not broken. Sometime in late 2012 the restaurant was closed for a renovation, both of the interior and the menu. The new decor is nice, pleasant, clean - no complaints there. Unfortunately, the new format and menu have completely destroyed any desire I have to go back.

The Flipping Cow calls itself a "burger joint". The menu has a few other items, but burgers are their main thrust. When you order a burger, that is what you get - a burger PATTY. The bun is extra. The cheese is extra. Want fries? Extra. And those fries are definitely not the fries served by the old Lakeshore Grill. Those were crinkle cut, crispy, flavorful; these are dry and bland. The patty itself was flavorless and barely covered the bun. I felt like I was eating a lettuce and pickle sandwich, not a sandwich served by someone who supposedly specializes in tasty, delicious hamburgers.

The owners of this restaurant have two other very successful establishments in this town, so we were very hopeful for this new one. Unfortunately, we are left with fond memories of the old menu (the California Club with cranberry aioli was to die for!) and the old french fry recipe.

“Standard but good American menu on Lake Simonton”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

We ate a late lunch here. The menu has mostly standard American fair, but our food was good. I had the ‘Wanna Be Grouper’ sandwich ($12), which is made with Swai, a farmed fish that turned out to be quite good. It came with a generous helping of tasty fries. My wife had the “Craisin Turkey” salad ($9). The salad was large and very attractive with leaf lettuce (not iceberg), walnuts, cranberries, etc. It would have been at home in a much fancier restaurant. We started with an appetizer of breaded mushrooms with a Southwest sauce ($7). This was also good. We had good draft beer for $4/pint. The place consists of 2 rooms. One with a bar and some tables. The other is an enclosed porch-like room with lots of windows and a nice view of Lake Simonton. They have a patio right on the lake but it was too cold today to sit outside.
