Just go. It's crowded for a reason.Beef is tender. Rolls tasty with strawberry jam. Salad bar has good selection..and they had homegrown tomatoes on it, not those hard, tasteless hydroponics.

Don't believe the bad reviews! Been driving 60 miles one way to eat here for over 20 years. Never had bad service, bad meal or seen restaurant not clean! Have taken family and friends and recommended it to others with never a complaint!

Beef House prides itself on the being the "BEST" beef house in Indiana. While I don't know who bestowed this moniker on them, it must have happened well in the past, because Beef House certainly does not earn this praise today. Save your money if you're expecting $30+ worth of aged beef - while certainly tasty, the beef is neither remarkable nor a good value. The Seafood happens to be better, but the major misses at this place are the salad bar and the service; strawberry jelly isn't any great shakes either. Salad bar is really basic, and is a disappointment.
Strawberry jelly has an off taste....kinda like plastic or metallic (too much corn syrup added??).
Worst part was our service...waitress missing in action. Too many opportunities for correction were never corrected. It's apparent to this Foodservice Professional that Training (Capitol T) was missing in action. No service protocols, no minor formalities, 'way too informal friendliness, and most importantly, lousy timing - did I mention missing in action?
If you live nearby, or are travelling past exit #4, stop in for something besides expensive beef...you may like the place. But it's definitely NOT a destination. Reminisces of 1980 perhaps, but the place needs better direction and a remake of the menu and personnel.

Ten years ago this was the best place to get a steak within a hundred miles, hands down. Since then it has gone downhill. Today I had the 12 oz. rib-eye dinner. It was a little on the expensive side but you get a drink, side, bread, the entree, soup and salad. The bread is as advertised still great. The salad bar was big and had a lot of pasta style salads and pea salad and Cole slaw ect, but it didn't have much in the way of extras for the salad, just lettuce, croutons and carrots. It was missing the egg, bacon bits, ham, cheese ect. The soup was almost inedible but the soup at The Beef House was never really great. I had the au gratin potatoes and besides being served cold they had very little flavor. My rib-eye didn't have a lot of flavor but it was cooked perfectly but other than that it just wasn't anything special. The decor has not changed in 20 years. The service was very good and is the only reason I didn't give The Beef House a poor rating. It seems to me that they have stayed the same and everybody else has changed and gotten better. A good place to go once every couple of years but its not as good as it used to be.

We live about an hour from the Beef House. Still when we want to treat ourselves, it is one of the two places we go. As a beef specialty restaurant they have many outstanding beef entrees. The ribeye is my favorite. They serve delicious fresh, hot rolls with the smoothest strawberry jam. The salad bar offers great selection and each item is fresh and tasty. Finally, the wait staff are all first class. Special event? Treat the one you adore to a great night out at the Beef House.
