Are you looking for the complete Japanese experience heavy on excellent food and superior service? Then you want to try Sansui, Carmel’s oldest Japanese restaurant. This hidden gem is tucked away on Range Line Road, just south of Carmel Drive. Sansui while a fixture in the area, has undergone a renovation making the interior inviting and light.

My husband and I sampled their sushi experience, which included miso soup, house salad or seaweed salad and four sushi rolls of our choice. We ordered Hoosier Roll, Spicy Crispy Roll, Futomaki, and Arizona Roll. All were delicious, but the Futomaki was my favorite. My husband enjoyed the spicy crispy roll. Sansui also features a large range of Japanese beer, wine, and saki. My husband enjoyed a bottle of Sapparo, while I enjoyed a house wine.

Sansui features a wide range of noodle dishes, bento boxes, chicken, and seafood dinners. They also feature sashimi, plus twenty-eight separate appetizers. All presented by a friendly, courteous staff. This is our second visit, and definitely not our last. I highly recommend it.

We have actually been to several Japanese restaurants, and enjoyed our visit very much.

Barely average food. Unfriendly staff. Not concerned at plastic piece in the drink and hair in napkin fold. We had to repeatedly ask for drink refills and condiiments. Don't waste time and money at this place.

The service was sloowwww! Nobody in the place, except some of the customers, seemed to be in any hurry nor was the staff particularly friendly with us. Drinks and food took exceptionally long to come out and all the while our server was chatting it up with the sushi chefs and all seemed to be more concerned with their conversation than with our food or service. We were just having sushi. It does not need to be cooked, so why would we have to wait 30 min for it?

The sushi was average quality. Not bad. We left full and overall happy, but a little let down by how long it all took.

Just awful. The staff need to take Japanese cooking and service classes. Our Japanese gyoza were infact Chinese dim sims. Our bowl of edamame was stained brown at the bottom and the miso soup was so salty we were guzzling water. The service was so slow (we waited 30 minutes after appetizer) that we left. We then had to wait again to finalize the bill. Definitely not recommended
