Scottish Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #1 of 2 Bremen B&B and Inns
Reviewed December 3, 2006

The hotel looks nice, but I have never met two more inhospitable people in my life! They have no business owning a B and B. The woman running the place is uptight and accusatory ALL of the time and her husband lurks around...it's just creepy. Someone else mentioned the dog kennels and they were right! There was a dog staying there with its owner and I can only say that I am glad I didn't bring my own. I would have turned around and left! Me and my S.O. were treated as if we were beneath them and if you hang out around the house during the day, they make you feel like you are intruding on their private time. We requested an early breakfast because we had to leave early and we were refused. There was a card on the dresser when we checked in saying that we could request it if we needed to but she told us that breakfast time is clearly stated and checking out early isn't a good enough reason for her to "dirty her kitchen" twice! I was appalled! I think the person who gave this B and B a 3-star rating was being way to generous. The rooms are nice and clean but that's all this place has going for it, the environment is certainly anything but romantic!

The couple running the B & B are just plain rude.

One other thing, the "privacy" of the King Room isn't so private. Anybody in the public pool area could see right through the poorly covered windows to the king-sized bed and no matter how many times we closed the door from the "private" patio to the pool area, she would reopen it again. I guess she wanted to hear our conversations. At the "private" breakfast on the patio, she kept sneaking up on us through the pool room to rush us through breakfast and tell us to be careful with her China.

There were rude comments throughout the trip and the man made several racial remarks that made us uncomfortable. When we arrived, she took us on a tour and showed us the small cabinet area where guests could get small snacks, coffees or teas whenever they wished. However, everytime we even entered the area, she would say things like "oh, you are getting another cup of coffee, didn't you already have one in your room?" as if we were taking advantage of her hospitality. 2 cups of coffee in an evening shouldn't have been that big of a deal.

When we tried to make a cup of coffee, following the instructions on the card beside the machine, it malfunctioned and water sprayed on her antique cabinet. She immediately started accusing us of doing it incorrectly and being rude. When we pointed out that everything was done according to the directions, she started to back pedal, but the damage was done. The following night, I got a cup of coffee and then returned to get one for my sister and again she was rude saying "don't you already have a cup in your room? I won't have enough for breakfast!" HOW RUDE! There were several other instances just like those.

The food at breakfast was so-so. She fed us pieces of egg casseroles that were "ok" and one tiny piece of what could be considered sausage or bacon and the tiniest amount of fruit. They are cheap and assume everyone is out to take advantage of them. She glared at me when I picked up one of the cups of yogurt. If you are 2 minutes late for breakfast, expect them to be knocking on your door and even though they say that you can request an early or late breakfast, don't bother. they will make you feel like a heel for even asking to inconvenience them and it won't happen.

We stayed at this hotel specifically because they allowed dogs. Their website claims to have a "doggie hotel" on site and to have a designated fenced area for pets. We took our two Aussie puppies, 5 months old. They led us to a kennel where they were boarding a German Shepherd who was in there with no water, no food and feces everywhere. She hastily made excuses saying that her husband had cleaned the kennel once that day and that he drank alot. The "doggy hotel" part was dark, part of an old garage they didn't even try to make look nice and it smelled so horrible from the German Shepherd, it was disgusting. It was stuffy with just one small, old fan that didn't work and the kennels were VERY small. They look larger on the website, don't let that fool you. The entire three days we were there, they NEVER cleaned his kennel and we had to give that poor dog water ourselves. It was hot and we considered calling animal welfare before we left but they assured us the owner was on her way to pick him up. Don't EVER consider kenneling your dog there.

We were uncomfortable leaving our puppies in unlocked kennels so far from the actual house, and asked to keep them in crates in our room. Even though they were 20 and 20 1/2 pounds, the limit they say pets can stay in your room, they refused, and extremely rudely. We told them that we had rescued them from a shelter rather than buying them from a breeder and they treated us like second class citizens from that moment on.

Throughout our stay, she kept "suggesting" that we walk our puppies down the highway with no sidewalk rather than her yard, but it wasn't until we asked to use that fenced-in area the website speaks of to let them run that she informed us she didn't want our dogs' "germs" in an area where she puts her own. We had the shot records and wellness reports from our vet to show that they were healthy but shelter dogs just weren't good enough for her. She wouldn't even come within 10 feet of them the entire time.

I have stayed in bed and breakfasts before, but I have never felt so much like an intruder in a place that asks $140 a night!
