Our small group had a fantastic birding adventure with David in May 2014. It was the peak of spring migration for neotropical migrants but we asked David to focus on local breeding warblers and he did not disappoint. We had terrific looks at Cerulean Warbler, Kentucky Warbler, Blue-winged Warbler, Prairie Warbler and several others. We spent most of our time in a slightly remote portion of Yellowwood State Forest. The forest vegetation was unforgettable with the many shades of brilliant green, especially for those of us from drought-plagued California! David knew all of the bird calls as well as songs, which it always much appreciated when looking for little songbirds, and they were singing their hearts out! Indigo Birding handled the logistics, including transportation, flawlessly. If you love warblers, do yourself a favor and spend a day or two with David during the songbird breeding season.
This was one of my favorite trips of the year! I was impressed how well you knew your midwestern songbirds. With five pairs of eyes, we found quite a lot... including both yellow-billed and black-billed cuckoos and a mourning warbler!
David drove us to Goose Pond where we saw sandhills, whooping cranes, owls, and many other spectacular birds. David was hospitable, gracious, informative and fun. I recommend without reservation and look forward to another outing. It was a very special day.
My very first IndiGo Birding tour! The background photo I have on my phone is of the short-eared owl that perched alongside the gravel road that one of you took from inside the van. Very cool!
A friend and I went on our first time birding trip this year. It so exceeded my expectations. Not only was David a great guide, he had done advanced planning, knew what birds we could expect, was able to spot multiple birds from their song and then find them among the trees. It was a great experience and I plan to do another trip in 2015.
This tour was a birthday gift from my family. It was a great gift!
Birding is a lot of fun... especially in our area of Indiana! I look forward to seeing you again!
This outing, led by David Rupp of Indigo Birding and photographer Scott Evans, was an excellent opportunity to improve both birding and photography skills. The trip leaders provided very useful advice on identifying birds, particularly fall warblers, which can be very confusing. I also got some highly valuable advice on improving my bird photography. I definitely plan to take part in similar Indigo Birding events in the future. Recommended in the strongest possible terms!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! We hope to do similar photography workshops again... the next one will likely be in the early spring.
