Mother Bear's is pretty average pizza. If you're a college student then this might be good for you. As a "grown up," I prefer more quality ingredients made with more care.

“Bloomington's Best Pizza”
Reviewed November 23, 2008

Mother Bear's has the best pizza in this town as judged by the next day-cold slice out of the fridge test. It tastes better cold than a hot pizza from most places in town. The selection of around ten beers seems to be plenty for non-beer snobs. If you need your Ma Bear's pizza fast, you should probably get carryout as the deliveries can get a bit backed up.

Pros: Great pizza & wings, cool fireplace in back
Cons: Limited daytime parking

“Overall not bad”
Reviewed September 4, 2008

I generally only go here when other people want to. The pizza is pretty good, but I could easily name several other better places in Bloomington as far as pizza goes. And let me do that: Uncle D's, Aver's, and Mad Mushroom. They do have some interesting pizza IDEAS, for example the one with vodka sauce, but the flavors never seem to really stand out. The pizza isn't "bold" tasting enough and is a bit flimsy somehow.

They do have good wings and great cheap wing specials (on Mon. and Tues. I believe??).

What I really hate about this place is the lack of good BEER. The selection is rather paltry, with Corona and Sapporo perhaps being the best, sadly. Almost every place in town has Upland at least. And a number of places have selections from Unibroue, Dogfish Head, Bell's, etc. Even Bear's Place right down the street has some Bell's or Dogfish Head offering most of the time. Mother Bear's seems geared toward the cheap beer and wings undergrad crowd, which is fine, but there's no reason not to have better beer AS WELL. It would certainly be sold. Mother Bear's does have one "special beer" per month. Some times this can be good--one month it was Bell's Oberon. The month before that it was LABATT BLUE, however. Am I to view this as a "special Canadian import"? Or another month it was some terrible light French beer (the French don't do beer!) and another it was an uninspiring Pilsner.

Sorry for the rant about the beer...but really that's what would bring this place down from three starts to two. But you can pretty easily go to this place and leave reasonably satiated.
