If you're a sports fan, especially of IU sports, this is where you'll want to gather, either during the game or at other times. The food is incidental to the atmosphere, but it's pretty good even so. There's a tradition about the place: Ruth, the popular curmudgeon of a waitress retired long ago, and has been replaced with pretty coeds who do not have Ruth's acerbic charms (their charms are more obvious). I was a regular for many years, and have preferred quieter places lately, though I miss my visits to Nick's. Nick's is an IU institution, as much a part of one's college experience as the buildings on the campus.
I liked the 7-inch pizza, with black olives, mushroom, green peppers, pepperoni, and extra mozzarella; strombolis and the Italian sausage sandwich are pretty good as well. I remember they had a "J. R. Burger" during the heyday of the soap, "Dallas": that was nasty (like its namesake) but tasty.
And I haven't even mentioned the beers....
