If you're a sports fan, especially of IU sports, this is where you'll want to gather, either during the game or at other times. The food is incidental to the atmosphere, but it's pretty good even so. There's a tradition about the place: Ruth, the popular curmudgeon of a waitress retired long ago, and has been replaced with pretty coeds who do not have Ruth's acerbic charms (their charms are more obvious). I was a regular for many years, and have preferred quieter places lately, though I miss my visits to Nick's. Nick's is an IU institution, as much a part of one's college experience as the buildings on the campus.

I liked the 7-inch pizza, with black olives, mushroom, green peppers, pepperoni, and extra mozzarella; strombolis and the Italian sausage sandwich are pretty good as well. I remember they had a "J. R. Burger" during the heyday of the soap, "Dallas": that was nasty (like its namesake) but tasty.

And I haven't even mentioned the beers....

We were amazed at the crowd within this little bar. Everyone from college kids to townies were present to eat and drink and there wasn't an empty seat to be had. We had the signature Nick's submarine sandwich...and it was excellent! Definitely a place worth saying you not only visited, but you ate and drank at too!

There has always been a NIcks (since 1927), in years gone by it was a great scene, good place to drink and a mediocre place to eat. Now, it has become a great place to eat as well. Who knew?

Excellent Harris Farm meats from Greene County, home made pastrami, surprisingly delicious fish and chips. My rating is effusive, but i think for what it is, Nicks is quite the place and has earned accolades. Plus you simply must go to know that you were in Bloomington.

We had reserved tables for a large group. Awesome food, awesome service. The wait staff and cooks handled everything very well, considering the size of our group.

Nick's is a huge draw for the IU crowd, so keep in mind it's a place to go more for atmosphere (if you like a boisterous, mostly younger crowd) than for the food. I've lived in Bloomington since 1998, and I've been there only a handful of times, if that tells you anything. Offers the standard bar fare, and the service is pretty average.
