Having stayed here a few years ago we opted to stay a second time. It is a good stop for the money. Very old and quaint, narrow halls and smallish rooms. It is clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful Restaurant was closed when we arrived but we were able to order their wonderful desserts for later in the evening. My only complaint is the lack of light blocking curtains in the room. When you stay in the outer rooms your room remains quite lit up from the outside lights. Other than that we enjoyed our second trip to the Sherman House.

I have eaten here many times. I highly recommend the breakfast buffet. I think it is only available on weekends though. Breakfast is always great. Lunch and dinner are okay, I would prefer Lil' Charlies which is close by for lunch/dinner. But I love The Sherman House for bfast/brunch.
The rooms are large enough, clean, a little older but clean and comfy nonetheless. The rates are reasonable and the last time I was there they did offer a military and AAA discount. The place is old but that is part of it's charm.

We had a wonderful meal with a great waitress in a nice but unstuffy atmosphere at a reasonable price. What more can you ask for? Very few spots in my town (Cincinnati) hit this rare, sweet spot between diners and fancy with such good, home-made food. The menu is large, with both German and American specialities.

This restaurant and inn was awesome. The charm of the place was lovely and the staff was superb both for the inn and restaurant. The food was good and never came out cold. Very professional. Also, some of the rooms are "haunted", you can always ask about it. I personally didn't experience anything that I would call haunting, but I had nightmares there every night (I haven't in years). Not a huge deal for me. Free breakfast served in the restaurant for those staying at the inn. Overall, a great visit.

Room Tip: Some are considered haunted. Be sure to clarify if you believe in that sort of thing whether yours i...

Found this place on road trip when tired of driving.
Small quaint town. Place has lots of spaces for renting out for parties. There were 3 or 4 parties there when we checked into a room.

Rooms include breakfast.
Rooms had decent bathroom and bedding. Old flowery wallpaper and old TV set. Did have fridge and wi-fi. Our room smelled like super sweet carpet cleaner which we did not enjoy.
Its an old hotel, but for the cheap price for weary travels it worked!
The inn also has a large rec room for guest with a big screen tv, vending machines, work out room, and pool tables.

Restaurant:
Had 2 entrees off German menu. ~ $12-20 per entree
Included large salad bar and some kind of beignets with apple butter
(we were pretty full before we got our entrees)
Also had amazing german beer.

Service:
5 stars for service. From front staff to wait staff to owner (who runs bar at restaurant and it there in the morning for breakfast) all were very helpful and accommodating. We could have taken our food up to our room if we wanted. All the staff was amazingly helpful. We felt right at home. Thanks for the great time!

All the rooms are up the stairs on the second floor. The rooms are older with older furnishings and flowery wallpaper. Pretty and cozy. The steam radiator was putting out the heat so we cranked on the air conditioner and evened things out. Nice bed and good bathroom. Wi-fi and a refrigerator. Not a modern hotel by any means but it is not advertised as such. Interesting history. We came over for Weberding's Carving Shop. Worth the stay. I have been to Batesville off and on since the mid-60's. Not much has changed.

We stop at the Sherman House Restaurant en route back to Indianapolis after a day of skiing at Perfect North Slopes. The restaurant is just a few minutes off of I-65 in downtown Batesville so very easy to reach and a nice alternative to the usual fast food and chain choices. They serve very hearty (consider splitting dishes if you're not super hungry) Americanized versions of classic German cuisine: sauerbraten and sausage platter, etc. While the Wienerschnitzel can't compete with Vienna's Figlmuellers you'll enjoy the much more friendly service! You start with a fresh, extensive salad bar and then have to be careful not to gorge on the yummy fried biscuits with apple butter. They serve multiple craft and German beers on tap for price that take you back many years. We've never had enough room for dessert, but I'm sure they were good, too. The dining room is intimate with cozy nooks and classic down home style with a German twist. Very good choice for a family or group to stop at on the way back home and they don't mind you showing up in your ski gear!
