“Maximum Autumn Colors mid-October”

Red, yellow, gold, and orange on one's viewing palette enlightens one's mind along with blue from sky and Lake. No crowds at the beach exist during this time of the season.

“Beautiful views of Lake Michigan. ”
Reviewed October 4, 2013 via mobile

I agree with many reviewing on here that the beach could use a little upkeep.

That said, this beach is wonderful! It has some of the most gorgeous views of Lake Michigan around lake county. I love coming here for a walk with anyone or just by myself to look at the Beauty All around.

It's a nice place to reflect and enjoy some piece and quiet. The plant vegetation all around the beach area is native and looks like how I remember most of the suburbs of lake county look like when I was younger.

It's a great beach to visit.

“Great place for a hike or walk on the beach in the fall months.”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

This beach is really beautiful and reminiscent of beaches in Indiana and Michigan with all the walking paths and vegetation. It feels pretty untouched and less touristy, so it is a great place to visit. Not a whole lot in the immediate area though.

“Illinois Beach State Park Has Deteriorated”
Reviewed September 13, 2013

We noticed that the concession stand had been abandoned. The parking lot was growing up in weeds. The visitor's center was closed on a week day, and the park office, also closed had a sign on the front door that said picnickers and sunbathers were prohibited from coming in! (probably they didn't want them using the bathrooms in the unbelievably luxurious office with a lake view paid for by the tax payers of Illinois).

“Decent camp spot to get away from the city...Bring tons of bug spray!”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

The staff here is friendly. They know they have a little hidden gem but hey dont have much control over the place. Camp spots are very nice, big. The bathroom was fillllled with bugs but its better than popping a squat in the bushes. Very quiet. Was here for a Wednesday and Thursday night during the July Heat wave and there was no one in sight at the camp site.

The beach is a little run down and a tad trashy, yet, in a heat wave like the one this summer it was a very refreshing and relaxing getaway. If you're going to visit Chicago but you want to beat the prices of a downtown Hotel, this place is only an hour north of the city. Just plan your travel times around rush hour and there is really no traffic going in. Check Craigslist for a parking spot to rent for a few days and you might get as lucky as I did. Found a spot to rent for 25$ for the weekend that was 2 minutes from Wrigley. Would stay here and do the same thing next trip.
