“Magic”
Reviewed August 3, 2014

How can we convey the magic of Clayoquot Wilderness Resort? We want to encourage all those who are considering a trip to this one-of-a-kind resort – it is a must! From the moment the seaplane circles over the clear waters of Bedwell Sound, you know you have been transported to an otherworldly place. After the warmest, most personal greeting you can imagine (complete with champagne cocktails and welcoming hor d’oeuvres), you spend the next few days in a veritable paradise. Every vacation has its standout moments, but what about a vacation where EVERY moment is exceptional? Each trip/activity is carefully planned so that each person in your group is happy and challenged to “get out of their comfort zone”. In our group, we had active and eager ten-year olds who scaled mountains (planned exclusively for our boys), kayaked, water skied, surfed and went rock climbing; a timid grandmother who went horseback riding for the first time in her life, tried her hand at archery and hiked “the wild side”; exhausted parents who relaxed in the spa, enjoyed drinks by the fire and reveled in the joy of their family. We all had the privilege of seeing bears, otters, orcas, bald eagles, porpoises, anemones, sea stars – all in their natural environments: unforgettable memories.

But the heart of Clayoquot is not just in the spectacular surroundings and outstanding adventures – as the other reviewers have mentioned, it is the people who push the resort into the stratosphere of vacation experiences. Each and every guide was friendly, knowledgeable, PATIENT and encouraging. At every meal, we were greeted by the warmest smiles and the most helpful wait staff (thank you Johnnie and Sienna!); our grandmother was particular in her food choices, but the kitchen staff accommodated her every request with a smile – their only wish is that the guests enjoy their food….and enjoy we did! The resort serves top-notch food – we live in New York and have access to some of the best food in the world – and the meals here rival the top restaurants in the country. Using locally sourced, absolutely fresh ingredients, Chef Ryan and his staff never overwhelm their food with fancy preparations, but somehow highlight and transform them into gourmet experiences. We cannot thank them enough for all the care! Each dinner is complemented by a careful selection of BC wines – all chosen by the extremely knowledgeable, friendly and delightful sommelier, Tereza; she entertained all of our questions and made sure the wines highlighted the food. She took such care and time with us – we will never forget her wonderful smile and warmth.

To John, Adele and Kathy – thanks to your careful and detailed planning, we had the trip of a lifetime, knowing that the utmost care was being taken to preserve that beautiful area. We thank you for dedicating yourselves to CWR – for the three generations in our family, you allowed us to enjoy the natural beauty, and also have once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

We visited Clayoquot in the beginning of July and our only regret is we stayed for 4 nights and not 7. We were coming from the Four Seasons in whistler and have never "glamped" before so we were slightly afraid we would be missing the comforts of the Four Seasons (which we loved)-my husband even asked me if we could shorten our stay at Clayoquot for fear of the unknown...well, thank goodness we didn't. As much as we loved the FS in whistler, Clayoquot and the whole experience there-blew it away!!!! we are a family of 5-kids are 8, 10, 12-we all slept in one of the deluxe tents and it was the first time we have all been in the same room (we normally would get a two bedroom suite to ensure everyone sleeps well) Turns out our nights at clayoquot were the best nights sleep ever. (and we fit great)
Since we've gotten home, I have literally been researching to find another resort similar to clayoquot in another interesting area-and I truly don't think it exists.
I can't say enough about this wonderful place-excursions were all top notch with perfectly new equipment for each one. Food was truly 5 star-even based on Chicago, new York, paris standards--since our trip-we have been to both paris and new York at all high end restaurants-including 3star Michelin rated in paris-and none even compared to food at clayoquot. it is truly rugged day and luxurious nights. The sommelier was fantastic too! recently travelled to napa and this was just as fantastic.
I could go on and on--really-an experience of a life time----Just go......we will be back.

Room Tip: stay in deluxe tent-worth the extra money for the beautiful bathroom

We can't thank our guests enough for reviews like this one! WOW is all I can say and THANK YOU ChicagoLambeau!!

I did want to clarify our 2 different style of tents though in case this review has helped make a decision for anyone out there.

We have 20 guests tents; 12 of which are our Luxury Ensuite tents which is what ChicagoLambeau is speaking about. These are the ones that have the bathroom attached with radiant in floor heating and outdoor cedar showers. These are a little extra but most of our guests enjoy this style of tent.

The other 8 tents are our Original Deluxe Outpost tents. These are the tents that have the detached environmentally friendly composting toilets and shower house like you would find in the old "outpost" days. We love these tents and still have them as this is what we have built our reputation on. In fact, I was just recently told by a guest that has been coming to us for years, that he prefers this style as you truly feel like you are camping with all the luxury.
It's up to you though, we will be happy to greet you on check in day with a warm hug, a wagon ride and a trip of a lifetime!

See you soon (we hope!)

Kathy

Words could never discribe this incrediable relaxing magical place. It really is the perfect family vacation, everyone is able to schedule their individual activates each day while discussing the options at dinner the night before.
Food.... let's just say, as everyone knows I'm a food snob- every meal is off the charts while having a fantastic wine list.
Sleeping.... Best sleep any of us has ever had!! The quietness and fresh air with a rain fall in the evenings hitting the tent was so very tranquil.
If your able to afford this trip, it is certainly one not to miss.

We spent four days at Clayoquot Wilderness Resort three weeks ago, and have NOT stopped thinking about it and raving about it every single day since our return.

The most noticeable difference between this and other five star experiences is the heart and soul that John and Adele (the proprietors) have put into every aspect of the resort. From the top notch gear, to the well cared for horses; the knowledgable and friendly guides; the absolutely fantastic comfortable and well equipped glamping accommodations; the insanely good food in the cookhouse; the keen knowledge of the sommelier...and all of her wine pairings; and most importantly the 24/7 F.U.N!!!

We got to go salmon fishing. skeet shooting, white water kayaking, did yoga every morning, went on an incredible expedition where we went bear watching (the cutest little baby bear you ever did see), went hiking on Flores Island (amazing sitka trees and vast sprawling beaches), we played in the surf in a zodiac boat, we went eagle watching, we went zip lining and horse back riding, we played pool....heck, even the float plane ride in and out was out of this world exciting!!

We cannot recommend this resort enough - we are already looking forward to our return.

Oh and by the way, we went on a romantic get-a-way - and it was PERFECT; yet definitely plan on taking the kiddos back with us next time.

John and Adele, you are incredible hosts.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Until next time, all of our best always,
Chris Madden and Krista Lachapelle

This trip was truly magical, from the first hello to our last goodbye everything was handled with the utmost care and attention to detail. When we landed we were picked up with horses and upon arrival to Clayoquot Resort a welcome drink was the start of this dreamlike vacation. The tents are kept in sparkling condition and most importantly the staff is an absolute 10/10. Our excursions included hiking, horseback riding, whale watching, Eagle feeding, bear sightseeing to name a few and each one was amazing. The food is absolutely exquisite, your taste buds are in for a rare treat and the wine cellar is spectacular. This place is truly unique, words can't possibly describe how beautiful and majestic it is. Together with the wonderful hospitality and kindness of Clayoquot Resort you are transported to a slice of heaven.

This is our second visit and it was better than the first time. We love the ensuite! The activity guides were great, we tried river kayaking, hiking , horseback riding, fishing, shooting, bear watching! Great fun for our whole family. The food at the cookhouse was very good and all the stuff were attentive and friendly.

We returned last night from Clayoquot, and have to say it was the best vacation we have ever taken, period. The kids had a blast and we can't wait to return. The food, accommodations, scenery, activities are all world class. However, there are not words to describe the service. Not a singe person in our family (kids ages 8,9, and 14) was ever told "no" regardless of the request. And the staff had a smile on their face 24 hours a day. We have been to some great places, but Clayoquot is the winner, hands down!
