This temple and its grounds are beautiful. The temple itself is a work of art and is architecturally stunning. The surrounding grounds/gardens are very nicely designed and maintained. I visited the temple during the middle of a long run that I was on - so I approached the front door dripping with sweat and inappropriately dressed, by some people's standards, for a house of worship. The person manning the door to the place was extremely welcoming and was happy to allow me in. This really gave me a good impression of the place and the Baha'i faith.

Interesting place. Very serene and spiritual. Parking can be tricky. Go to their lot across the street on the East side of Sheridan road and walk back.

The Bahai Temple is located north of Chicago in Wilmette, IL. It is well worth the drive to see this amazing work of architect. Along with the temple, the grounds are meticulously kept and you will find a peacefulness and ease inside and outside the temple. There is no charge and all are welcomed to go inside the temple. Wilmette is located outside of Evanston.

The Baha'i Temple is situated in Wilmette, IL just across the street from the very picturesque Wilmette Harbor and Gilson Park on Lake Michigan. First, its white marble fretted with intricate lacy patterns trace the basic pointed dome shape. Outside you can stroll the gardens and observe the nine-sided, pure white temple. Closer inspection will reward the viewer with its grace and majesty. It does not matter one bit what religious background you bring to this place. Everyone loves this place. You will enjoy the perfection you can envelop yourself within as you walk up to the edifice. Then, don't be shy, walk inside. Enjoy a moment or two of peace and serenity. Look up and take in the tracery of light in the carved walls. Curious about the religion that inspired this work? There is a lovely absolutely no-pressure education center downstairs that explains their views of the oneness of God, the oneness of humanity and the oneness of religion. Well worth the drive from Chicago. Then, if you want, you can walk over to Lake Michigan and see the sailboats, dog beach and harbor life. From our beautiful beach, you will get another great view of the Baha'i Temple.

Yes, the architecture of the temple is wonderful, the lawns are beautiful and well-designed, and so on. But the main and unique property of the temple is the blissful silence that is maintained inside it.
As soon as you enter the temple, all the outside hustle-bustle leaves you at once. It gives you peace of mind and calmness. Pray, meditate, or just close your eyes and ruminate over pressing thoughts!
