Karen Gables is a fantastic place to stay. You are made to feel so welcome by Clemence and Frederick. It's set in a stunning location, and you can either just chill out at the house by the pool or head into Nairobi to explore. They will help you organise day trips from the hotel. The food is incredible - the best I had during my two week stay in Kenya.
Everything about staying at Karen Gables is top class. The beautiful home, the quality of the decor (homely, full of beautiful antiques), the well manicured gardens, the amazing warm friendly staff who bend over backwards to meet your every need - (even baking a birthday cake and singing Happy Birthday in Swahili), the delicious food, the facilities (lovely rooms and bathrooms), and even an SAS trained guard dog to greet you at the door and protect you at night. I highly recommend this special place to anyone who wants a relaxed visit to Nairobi in a beautiful peaceful environment. We are definitely going back there.
Karen Gables is an absolute treat. The house is located in a lovely big garden in the leafy suburb of Karen, close to the Karen Blixen Museum and Giraffe Centre and not far from the David Sheldrick Foundation and the Nairobi National Park. The house is beautifully appointed and filled with lovely antiques and quirky pieces. As well as a few adorable, well behaved dogs. Our party occupied 4 of the bedrooms all of which were perfectly clean and comfortable: the beds and linen are of a high quality. We were extremely well looked after by Clemence and her team, all of whom went out of their way to make us feel welcome and to accommodate our every need - even to the extent of making a downstairs suite available for an infirm member of our party. Clemence also arranged for Calvin to drive us around - he too was outstanding. We were fortunate to eat at Karen Gables 3 of the 4 nights that we stayed there and thoroughly enjoyed each meal. It was a great privilege to stay at Karen Gables and I look forward to doing so again.
We had a great stay here as a young couple. We arrived very late which was fine for the staff. The staff over the duration of our stay did not stop to amaze us with their friendliness and service. The house is stunning; very nice room as well; great pool; great food; small garden to wander around in. We'd list stuff that we didn't like, but there simply wasn't anything to complain about. We didn't really see the owner (once buzzed by in a bathrobe) but spoke to the very kind parents. They have a very big and very sweet dog which we found adorable.
I had an excellent welcome and time at Karen Gables. The room was very clean and cosy. The hosts are really friendly and are always ready to help you with questions. The food is delicious and be sure to try their perfect wines. I really enjoyed my stay! It's definitely the place to be if you're looking for day(s) of relaxing surrounded by a beautiful garden with pool. It can’t get any better!
A super little B&B that transcends the service offerings of a traditional bed & breakfast. Fred the butler, waiter, wake up service, porter, chef and chief bottle washer is a super guy who creates the personality of this establishment.
Set in the cool, leafy superb of Karen in Nairobi, this oasis is a welcome retreat after the frantic adventure of an East African Safari.
The homestead replicates a traditional Cape Dutch home from the Western Cape, boasts large airy bedrooms, lovely quite spaces, dinning areas beyond the traditional dinning room, a swimming pool that begs to dived into and a rollong green lawn that ends overlooking a cool fresh stream.
The room we had was very well furnished, comfortable bed, lovely bathroom. Very quiet and peaceful setting. The staff were excellent to. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to be back.
