I stayed at the Westin North Shore for several months on business. It is by far the best hotel in the area. You can check out the Renaissance in Northbrook, but I love the multiple dining options, great pool, and heavenly beds at the Westin. For a business traveler, the environment at the RT lounge and Osteria di Tremonto are by far the best I have ever seen at a suburban location. Plus having the Ram and claim jumper walking distance away are nice options. For the most part the staff is incredibly friendly, especially at the club level.

My only complaint with this hotel is the housekeeping is consistently sub-standard. They do not clean up room service trays, ever. I can't believe they leave half eaten trays or glasses just lying there after making your bed. Also, they don't arrange the bathroom at all, such as hanging your bath towel or arranging your toiletries. That may be too much to ask for but most other decent hotels do a better jub.

I had a meeting nearby and stayed at the Westin. I found it to be an excellent surburban hotel. The room was excellent along with all the facilities you would expect. Nearby jogging paths are excellent. i especially like the bakery for breakfast. The staff were very helpful. The hotel van drove us to Highland Park for dinner at Carlos, which is one of the best restaurants in the Chicago area. I highly recommend staying here if you have a meeting or other reason to stay north of Chicago. I also recommend going to Carlos (about a 20 minute drive).

I chose this hotel for two reasons: It received great reviews here, and its location seemed fairly close to Chicago. I also reviewed the hotel's Web site, which made it look like a great place to stay.

The location is about 20-25 miles away from Chicago. When I found a taxi driver at O'Hare who even knew where Wheeling was, he had to call the hotel to get directions. It cost about $70 to get a taxi ride to this hotel from the airport. Ouch.

I booked a "junior suite" room at the hotel, which turned out to be nothing more than a "queen guest room." There were two queen beds, neither of which felt comfortable and neither of which seemed like actual queens...more like full/queen in size. The hotel Web site photo of a junior suite is nothing like the room I got, but at the front desk they insisted that I had received the right room because "the bathroom is larger." The bathroom was fairly large, but it had no bathtub...another quirk for a "suite" in my experience.

The hotel was mobbed with screaming children, crazed adults, and people handing out sombreros for some sort of family event. Whatever was going on, the place felt more like a Disneyland hotel than a suburban Chicago Westin hotel. Sitting in my room, the paper-thin door and walls allowed all of the hallway and neighboring room noises to come through as if amplified with a megaphone. Not very relaxing.

Ultimately, I switched from this hotel to another one that was actually in Chicago. The manager on duty didn't even acknowledge my presence when I went downstairs to work something out with regard to transferring somewhere more centrally located. Not very nice.

The one positive was the concierge and bellhop staff. Those guys were absolutely on the ball, very attentive, professional, and courteous.

Called the North Shore, 25 miles north of downtown Chicago and miles from any shoreline and feels like it is in the middle of nowhere, or Wheeling to be precise. Just 8 months old, and built I guess as a convention/meeting room center judging by the facilities. Commuter rail station is a few miles away. On the Sunday night I was there it was very quiet with an almost empty (and free) car park. My meal in the large attractive Italian restaurant was excellent and way exceeded my big hotel expectations which is not too high. The arched bricked ceiling had me fooled for a few minutes. There is also a very good restaurant a 1 min walk away which I had the good fortune to be taken to at lunch time. Pleasant hotel coffee shop, free wi-fi in reception area. Did not try out gym, pool or hotel mini-bus. My room was superb, very spacious, comfortable complete with large LCD TV and settee. Huge bathroom with an amazing shower but they need to do something artfull with those clear lower windows. Bottled water in the room is complementary as the big sign says but the half bottle of wine with no sign cunningly placed next to it is not as I later found to my expense ($22) on my credit card. All in all very pleasant except for the wine.

Stayed at the hotel 2 nights for an onsite convention. There are not refrigerators in the room for soda and leftovers. Comfortable room, bed and bathroom. Loved the large display TV. The hotel doors are hollow, heavy and loud. The upscale clientele of the hotel makes for a relatively quiet night. The conversation of the hotel quests in the hallway was loud and clear. Experienced some bar-time chatter in the halls, but not much. The lap pool and whirlpool area was very nice with sufficient towels and pipped in music. Front desk was very friendly. Make sure you ask the Concierge for the best food delivery locations. My 2 day convention is booked at this hotel for the next 3 years. I will be returning each year with no hesitations.

I booked a room here for my anniversary, and surprised my husband. The check-in went very smoothly and we got a room on the 8th floor. The room was a typical Westin room - very classy, comfortable, contemporary and with the awesome Heavenly Bed! There were several bars and restaurants within the hotel complex so we enjoyed some drinks that evening and had a wonderful, relaxing evening. We didn't have the time to go downtown so this was a nice alternative.

This is a newer hotel in a decent suburb of Chicago. We received an excellent weekend rate which made it a bargain.

The entire hotel is non-smoking. The bed is excellent, one of the best we've slept on in a hotel. Room also includes a nice 32" LCD TV with high-definition channels.

The bathroom is average, a vanity outside of the bathroom would have been a nice addition. The room size is also average and did not have a refrigerator.

Excellent lap pool and exercise room.

Avoid the third floor! We had a nice view of the lobby roof and air conditioning units.

High-speed Internet is $9.95 per day which amazes me when it's free at many lower quality hotels.

Room service prices are obscene. The American Breakfast (eggs, bacon, toast, and potatoes) is $18.00 plus $3.00 delivery plus 20% gratuity plus 11% tax (roughly $26!). In the general area of the hotel there are some nice restaurants but nothing a little more economical.

Access to the hotel is fine with valet parking, but a walk for self-parking. The parking/hotel layout isn't that well designed.
