“Pricey but Intriguing Food, Poor Waiter”
Reviewed June 16, 2013

We're local and decided to try the new place in town; we made reservations and walked up in the late afternoon (5pm) since we live 2 blocks away on Wolf. The redone decor is very nice and people were generally quite pleasant. As fourfamilytravels said in their review, the assistants/busboys were great and very on top of things. The food was quite good - we had 2 appetizers, one salad, 2 sideboards (including some very good foccacia), 2 beers, and 2 entrees for the four of us. At $120 the price seemed a tad high for what we got, but with the exception of the ricotta dumpling pasta (which was very bland) it was still good.

The downside of the night was our waiter. Although he started well, he was completely MIA for much of the meal. Additionally, he forgot to put the order in for our main entree pasta dish. Since he didn't bother to check in with us during our meal, we weren't able to flag him down after waiting for 15 minutes with all the other dishes finished. When he did finally stop by, he blamed it on the kitchen being busy but we all felt he dropped the ball and didn't have the wherewithall to own up to it. For how much we paid, the service should have been much better...

“Great addition. To Western Springs culinary options!”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

We recently had a family meal at this new spot in Western Springs and couldn't have been more delighted. Our server was very friendly and helped with choices for our 9 and 6 year old since they do not have a children's menu. The girls chose half pepperoni and half sausage pizza and they couldn't have been more accommodating!

As for the adults, we started with a couple of toppings for our bread board- the pate with cherries served in a mason jar was excellent. We also sampled the prosciutto /veal meatball ( 3 yums).

The halibut was great, very flaky with a great tricolor pepper I've sauce that really enhanced the delicate light fish . The highlight of the meal for us though was a giant spinach ricotta and egg yolk ravioli( 5 yums). The oozing yolk made a great sauce for the dish .

While this is a chain, the quality of the food was far above what you would expect. A great meet and greet place with lots of small plates to share made for a very tasty And festive evening!

“Interesting dishes, but pricey, spotty service and LOUD”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

We live in Western Springs, and walked to the restaurant the third or fourth weekend it was open.

Decor: They have done a beautiful job renovating the old space, and it is very pleasant.

Staff: Everyone was very nice. Unfortunately, our waitress was not around very often, and mixed things up in our order more than once. It was crazy busy, so I do have a bit of sympathy for her, but I think management needs to add more servers. The assistants (we used to call them busboys) were WONDERFUL.

Food: Delicious. Very interesting, creative, and flavorful

Price: Expensive. We got four dishes and a salad and four cocktails total, and the bill (with tax and tip) was about $180.00. The dishes are very small (almost like a tapas), and, while I am happy to pay a premium for good food and service, I thought the price exceeded the value of what we got for this experience.

Ambiance: As mentioned, loud and crowded.

We will definitely go back and give it a second chance, and I want the place to succeed. But, unless the service is flawless and the place is a bit less of a zoo, the next time will be our last time.

“Hooray! We can enjoy this great restaurant close to home!!”
Reviewed April 24, 2013 via mobile

After enjoying from day one the amazing Taylor Street location, we are thrilled to have this Davanti Enoteca in our backyard.
We have visited the Western Springs restaurant twice in its first week of operation and can heartily say hooray!!
The mascarpone polenta topped with the ragu of the day is divine, pizzas/focaccia fresh out is the oven are fragrantly fabulous...too many great choices to list!
