Our party dined at Dreamland for the 5th or 6th time. Whenever we get a sauerbraten or schnitzel urge, there is only one place to go in the Metro St. Louis area, and that is Dreamland.

What a wonderful charming if a bit kitchy restaurant. I would hate to dust all the knick knacks on the bar and in the dining room, but am thrilled with the service and the food.

The soup and salad bar is plain, and the soup is really thin, but the entrees are magnificent. The schnitzel was served piping hot, although using canned mushrooms was a bit disappointing. The ladies had sauerbraten and loved it.

Our waiter said that the sauerkraut on the salad bar was not the same as the side dish served, but it is difficult to have sent the difference.

Each of these "issues" is miniscule compared to the wonderful food and the great time had by all.

We recently visited Dreamland Palace on our vacation to Southern Illinois. We always try to visit the "local" places and stay away from the "box stores" when we travel. This has been in operation since 1875. The decor was German "Kitch" - but charming. The original bar and woodwork was a sight to see. The service was exemplary and the owner visited each table and welcomed all who were dining. The food, now that is a different story! It was the best German food we have ever had, and, we returned the next night to try different entree's off the menu! My husband who lived in Europe praised the whole meal and the desserts! It is good to know that when we visit the area again, this will be a MUST STOP on our travels. I realize many people post reviews just to complain and make themselves look good and knowledgeable, but I would suggest give it a try - and come away pleasantly surprised! Congrats to the owners and staff for a delicious meal (2 nights in a row) and we look forward to seeing you all again soon!

1. Should have been concerned upon arrival that my reservations was not posted.
2. Lived in Germany for 4 years and travel in Germany on numerous occasions and did not reflect the German food I came to enjoy. The food was not appetizing nor completed for 9 of the 11 people in our party.
3. Three of the side items on the menu were not available.
4. The German potato salad appear too have come out of a can and the visual appearance and taste was terrible.
5. Brother-in-laws meals:
a. One was very cold
b. 10 of the 11 family members had already completed, before the smoked pork chops were served

Oh my! Immediately felt like we were uninvited guest. The waitor was just plan rude. Agree, he could of cared less. Thought it would be fun to take the kids for a drive and eat German food. Waited two hours for entrees that were so salty you could not eat them, instant potatoes with dried parsley sprinkled everywhere, My kids didn't even ask for dessert! Oh, the beer was cold, but good luck on trying to have more than one or a refill on any of your drinks..
