The Coach & Horses Inn
Reviewed February 4, 2010

I have stayed at the coach and horses twice now. The first time i stayed i was booked in for two nights by the company i work for. I was staying on my own, which is a little daunting for a woman! But the staff were so helpful and friendly it was like being at home! The furnishings were comfortable, the staff couldnt do enough for you (despite being very busy with the christmas period), the food was out of this world (both delicious and ample portions! not just a decoration on a plate like most restaurants!) and the room was quiet and a good nights sleep was had, followed by a lovely full english each morning! Its a family run Inn, which i gathered has been ran by the same family for quite some time now, and the have the correct combination of friendlyness without being too overbearing and 'in your face'.
I enjoyed my stay so much i took my partner there for a weekend away, and it was lovely to be greeted and also recognised as a returning customer by the manager David (it makes such a difference to have a warm greeting) He even bought both of us a free drink for returning. I also recognised a few faces ( customers) that i saw last time i stayed, so obviously a place were 'regulars' return time and time again. The open fire place was lovely on a cold day, and once agin for the second time our stay was truly memorable! For all the right reasons! Myself and my partner have already booked again to return in the summer months for a break and are truly looking forward to it.
A definate thumbs up from me for both couples and people travelling solo!

I have just returned from a weekend at the Coach and Horses Inn, Chiselhampton, Oxford with ym partner. We have had a lovely time and would definately highly recommend this to anyone to enjoy a weekend away from London in some beautiful countryside.

The Coach and Horses Inn is a 16th Century building which is currently run as part pub part restaurant. We ate there in the evening on a saturday. The most amazing food was served! Way beyond expectations....a definate must to book a table and enjoy what is on offer.

We didnt have a car, but leisurely walked to the next village and pub also, in Stadhampton approx 1 mile away. Pleanty of lovely countryside to keep walkers and stollers entertained.

The accomodation is out the back of the pub, clean, modern and comfortable. The service was outstanding, David the publican was very friendly and service from him and his team was outstanding. All round a fantatstic stay, and a definate recommendation to anyone considering staying there.

A truly dreadful stay. The website advertises it as a 16th century coaching inn but all we experienced was the back of a pub (the rooms are not in the pub itself but in a "modern block" of rooms out of the back which are very noisy as they are next to the car park and the smoking area). They are also very cold. There was 1 very incredibly thin torn pillow each to sleep on. The breakfast was the worst I have ever left - slabs of semi cooked bacon and burnt sausage that was still somehow raw in the middle. The manager was very friendly, but the "pub" itself lacks any atmosphere - it is essentially a restaurant with no focal point. We sat on a table which was next to the toilets and spent the evening watching people go in and out of the toilets. Only if you perch at the very small bar (stopping anyone else from buying drinks) can you get any "pub" experience. One to definately avoid!!!

Clean rooms, a "can do" attitude, (waited late for my arrival) a host with a smile who engages in conversation and is happy to chat to a very late arriving guest and give him a drink into the bargain, decent breakfast, at a good price........ All you can ask for in a small hotel...............
