The Coach & Horses Inn
Reviewed May 28, 2012

We stayed here after going to Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons for lunch. The rooms were comfortable and modern. We were pleasantly surprised. The only downside was that the shower in my brothers room didn't work. Apparently it had broken that morning and they were fully booked so couldn't move them. Just as well we had a few rooms so they could use our showers. If I was in the area again I would definitely stay again.
We had some food in the pub which was really good, although we only had starters. The breakfast was yummy too, kippers, I was very pleased!

Stayed to break up journey back from France as only short drive from M40. Room clean and comfortable. Staff friendly and attentive. Food excellent. Have already recommended to friends and intend to return soon to visit Oxford and Blenheim Palace.

We stayed there for one night recently visiting my daughter, rooms were as described, clean and nicely decorated, the only thing that spoilt it was the bed was rather hard and the shower was either cold or really to hot (Room 1). My other daughter had Room 2, which again was clean and nicely decorated with a four poster in it but she said that the bed was quite rickety and everytime they turn't over it made a noise. We had a meal in the evening which was very nice and you only have to walk across the courtyard, the place is very popular to eat in, so you need to book. Staff were brilliant, breakfast was good too. For the money it was probably one of the better B & B we have stayed in as we usually do hotels. It was nice not to see the usual B & B with patterned carpet and patterned curtains that clash :o). So yes I would stay again but probably ask for a different room.

Just a brief line, we had a very enjoyable stay, the accommodation is great and very good value, we were very warm (cannot believe the review that said it was cold!). The pub is more restaurant than pub but that's fine. The breakfast was excellent. Staff were brilliant. We will stay there again if we are in the area. My only niggle was the small bar area if you were only drinking and not eating, but this does not affect the very good B+B rating

We spent one night at the Coach and Horses and were very impressed. Rooms were as described, very comfortable with all you need to get a good rest. Very tastefully decorated and plenty of room. Clean and comfy

Food was lovely, service excellent and very friendly. Both dinner and Breakfast were excellent.

Will go again

Room Tip: Room 7 has a bath if you'd like one. not all do some have shower only

We were rather disappointed when we saw the room, which was one of a row of nine purpose built in the back yard. The on-line photo really was a tribute to the photographer's presentational skill; the reality was a VERY small room, with a small double bed and minimal space to move around it! If one person used the single chair then the other either had to climb over the bed or ask the sitter to move and lift the chair out of the way. It was not remotely comfortable. Surfaces and bedding were clean enough and a smell of disinfectant was evidence that the bathroom had been cleaned. Food was average for a pub, but at restaurant prices. All but one of the staff excellent , friendly and helpful. Free wi-fi available but reception so poor as to be useless.

Room Tip: They all look the same from outside.

I can only comment on the restaurant but we booked a table for 20 for a birthday celebration and then they managed to squeeze another 2 in for us despite already having another large party the same evening. On the night, our departure for the restaurant was delayed so I rang them at around 7 (for an original 7.30 booking) to see if we could put the meal back to 8.15 and they obliged. When we arrived, they could not have been more helpful and attentive and though we were a big party, the room layout meant that we could all talk to each other quite easily. Everyone was served at the same time and the food was delicious and piping hot. Most people had steaks and all were cooked to perfection. The wine was praised by everyone who drank it. We had a fantastic evening with the help of all the staff who seemed genuinely happy to be contributing to our celebration. Cannot recommend the food and service too highly. We always visit this restaurant if we have visitors we want to impress!
