The Coach & Horses Inn

Overprised but clean rooms, friendly people but rooms, menu, pub all in need of modernising , food quite good (old fashioned menu stuck in the 80's but edible) breakfast quite nice, rooms clean bathroom modern but bedroom dated.
Service slow wasn't a problem because there was nothing else to do, pub uncomfortable if not eating.

Room Tip: Close to Oxford

Would recommend this very friendly rural pub. Stayed for two nights, accommodation very good with good facilities including log fire in the Pub lounge. Food was excellent and staff were very friendly and welcoming, service was top notch even though on both nights the restaurant was full. Breakfast which included the full English and lighter fruit platter for my wife was freshly prepared and very good. Ideal location to get quickly into Oxford or to explore the surrounding countryside.

We booked here, upon the recommendation of another pub which was fully booked for the weekend we were looking at. We were travelling with 2 dogs and had decided we wanted pub style accommodation as it suited our budget in oxford better than the hotels available that accepted pets. Over the 2 nights we found the staff really nice, we arrived late and they were good about that too, the room was serviced well on the 2nd morning and breakfasts were really tasty. Shower pressure was poor as stated by other reviewer, but our room had a bath and a shower, so that mattered nothing to me! Also the bedrooms were a very good size and layout. We did not eat at the pub in the evening as we were meeting a friend who had 2 dogs aswell, so eating out was not an option, otherwise we would have eaten, as the menu looked good.

I stayed at The Coach and Horses Inn for two nights on 21st January – 23rd January 2011, as we were in Oxford for the weekend. I found my stay to be excellent value for money and the room was very comfortable. I stayed with my sister, and we had a lovely quiet and cosy room with twin beds and a lovely cosy atmosphere.

Our only complaint was that the shower was slightly weak, but the water stayed hot throughout both of our showers. Food in the pub is lovely, we all enjoyed our meals on the Friday night we were there. There is plenty of choice, and all mains come with potatoes, vegetables and chips so you get plenty for your money!

The breakfast next day in the restaurant was very good with a wide choice, from cereals, toast, sausages and bacon.

The Inn was about 10 miles from the centre of Oxford, so we had a lovely quiet night’s sleep, and there’s plenty of things to do nearby, we went to the village of Ewelme which was lovely, and to Dorchester-On-Thames, then next day we went to the Natural History and Pitt Rivers museum which was really interesting, so much to see!

I would definitely stay here again if we come back to Oxford!

Wanted to stay in or near Oxford for weekend. After reviewing Oxford hotels and prices the Coach and Horses a few miles outside the city caught our attention with its country location (not far off M40), ample parking and good reviews and as we would be arriving quite late i wanted a restaurant as well. First impressions is a quaint English country pub. Entered the pub to find it heaving with diners. Evening meal (on both nights)was well above pub grub and in fact one of the nicest meals eaten out. The service was just perfect (David and co -- well done- especially the chefs)) The bedrooms are in a newish block added on and certainly very adequate, firmish mattress was ok. Room warmed up quickly after turning fire on. (suppose being eco friendly heat isnt wasted). Breakfasts were more than adequate. . Bus stop outside the pub takes you straight into Oxford city centre (just under £5 return) . If i was to be picky then i would say-- limited range of beer, dreaded UHT milk with tea and coffee in bedroom i suppose they would have given real milk if asked, reception for the accommodation was the bar which was abit awkward struggling in with bags amongst the diners and drinkers. i could have left them in car and taken them through another way-- we live and learn. Only other gripe was had agreed a rate on phone of £70 but was charged the standard £75 but as we had enjoyed our stay with great food and service i considerd that our gratuity. Would whole heartedly recommend.

Spent one night at the Coach & Horses whilst in Oxford. Service was excellent. Nothing too much trouble for David. bed was comfortable, plumbing a bit noisy, but the rest of the service made up for this! We asked David about a manor house we wanted to visit and the next morning he had run off the details and left them outside our room. Had a really lovely meal in the restaurant, worth booking a table as not much around, but we were really glad we opted to eat at the hotel. Would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay again.
