Gorgeous outdoors waterfall and trails. Picnic areas and a great story to be told. I want to come back to see the leaves in the fall.

We were able to see so many Eagles in and around the Starved Rock State Park. If you love to see these beautiful birds it is a definitely must go to place.

I wish we went for the day and not overnight. The campgrounds are off-site from the rest of the park. Despite posted quiet hours, there was no one to enforce it, and people were SO FREAKIN LOUD. Kids singing, blowing whistles, people showing up at 11pm and setting up, so so so loud. Nobody to complain to, either, as the people at the actual park don't have anything to do with the campsite. There's nothing to do at the actual campground except avoid dog poop when you're walking to the bathroom.

“Great hiking area with possibility of seeing eagles”
Reviewed January 31, 2014

We had a great time at Starved Rock State Park with all the hiking trails and the lodge we stayed at. You may want to make reservations for the Starved Rock Lodge if you are going during peak times. We were traveling in September and were lucky enough to get a reservation. They have a couple of options in the lodge to eat and have a few beers in their bar area after a long day out on the trails. They have a large pool and hot tub to relax in after whatever you've done during the day. We hiked a lot of the trails but especially made sure to hike to the Eagles nest area with hopes of seeing one of the eagles that come thru the area. From the Eagles nest area you get a vast view of the whole area and it was amazing to look down on the river and see the river full of Asian carp and watch them jump out of the water when the barge was moving. We met a lot of people that had traveled and exchanged many stories and got a few ideas for future trips. All in all, we had a wonderful time at this state park with it abundance of things to do. This can be a place to come to for a few hours or if you like to hike it can take days to go down all the trails. There are some trails that go along streams and few with stairs at various levels, so pick a trail that goes with your level of hiking. Have fun and happy hiking. There are also many cabins that can be rented that are on the same level as the lodge area. There is also an area on the lower level that is an information area and bathroom facilities for school outings.
