we took a trip to starve rock the first weekend of November. The fall colors are beautiful right now. Though the area got two inches of rain yesterday, when we hiked the Wildcat Canyon and the French Canyon the waterfalls were only trickling. However, you always win with hiking with in starved rock state park. I will definitely come back in spring to see more of the waterfalls. this is a great weekend trip if you're within 2 hours of the area. You can spread your hiking trails out to several different trips.

The Visitors Center is a must see, and if you are into hiking, there are multiple valleys with views.

This is a place to visit any time of the year. There is so much to see. We visited end of October but the trees really hadn't changed yet. The views were amazing and the canyons so cool. I would love to see them with the waterfalls running in the spring and frozen on the winter. Lots of white pelicans near the dam.

Huge park!! Lots of trails and nice scenes. This place lets you experience how the Indians would roam around the area.

We came late Oct and although the leaves didn't really turn yet, it was still very serene. The trails were very well organized with very knowledegable staff. Some of the gorges were very picturesque and you can get almost everywhere with an extensive set of built trails that run for miles so you can get some really good exercise if you wanted. Dogs are welcome so our dog loved the walk. No fee to get in and parking was easy...although I think we got lucky. Very close to chicago (about 1.5 hrs). We plan on coming back in about 2 weeks when the leaves turn and we can't wait.
