“EXCELLENT Campground!!”
Reviewed July 7, 2014

We were very impressed by the professionalism at this campground. We stayed on site B6, which was a GREAT site, very large. The H sites were nice also. This campground is very quiet, clean and well maintained. The price was very reasonable for a full hookup at $38/night for a holiday weekend. The local state park was charging $35 per night for just electricity. We stayed in a 36 foot fifth wheel. You could faintly hear the freeway in the background, but nothing that was loud or too distracting.

This is the most unfriendly place I have seen yet. The staff will start yelling at you for the smallest reasons telling you that if you dont like it then leave. We did, but we had to threaten to call the ploice to get our money back.

Like most places in Utica, this place was just another overpriced tourist trap. But worst of all, basically a retirement village full of large RV's unwelcoming for families or at least anyone under the age of 50 with a tent.
What was thought to be, a nice welcoming staff, turned into nosey old owners, super worried over they're little retirement investment nest egg. These people litterally stalked my children as they were enjoying the pool and continued to check up on them in the bath house! Very rude and unconfortable for sure. I couldn't enjoy my camping experience either because these idiots were working around my site with loud machinery having no respect for our privacy. If your planning on visiting starved rock..i recommend going past this town for any camping or lodging.

This is a very nice campground with an extremely friendly and helpful staff. Convenient to I-80 with spacious, pretty grounds. Sites are roomy, most are level, and some are concrete. Some sites are very secluded in the trees. Clean pool, playgrounds and common areas. Restrooms were clean. We had a fantastic experience and would definitely stay again. We stayed here in a travel trailer.

We have stayed at Hickory Hollow many times since they originally opened. They are usually able to accommodate us at the last minute which has been a lifesaver. The campground is clean and they are constantly making improvements and adding sites. The pool is clean, crowded and the water is pretty cold, but we enjoy it. The campground is right off the highway and just 10 minutes from the state park. The staff monitor the campground well and keep the noise level down when quiet hours start. I wish there were some kids activities, but there are two parks and the pool as well as a walking trail so we find enough to keep us busy.

we have been to Hickory several times over the last several years. Yes they have rules and those rules keep the trouble to a minimum. Nice and quite, clean and close to starved rock.
It is close to several large towns and there is enough to do to keep you busy.

I'm deeply upset that I have to give this place at least a star since it's undeserving of one. Our group was having a good time until 10:00 P.M when an employee came on a golf cart to tell us that that quite time started and that we had to either keep it down or "get the hell out", were his exact words. When we checked in the only rules we were told were not to tie things to trees. It was a Saturday and we had a party of eleven that all paid. Odd enough when we confronted we were eating and talking amongst ourselves, I know this because when one our party said, "We'll keep it down," through a mouth full of marshmallow the employer was angry that he couldn't understand him and repeated "What did you say!?," twice. What was also annoying was that at 3 A.M two people lost their dog and were wandering around yelling for three hours and no one said anything. Will never be coming here again. I can only speak for the womens restroom but it smelled awful, with unclean toliet bowls with skid marks, and toliet paper all over the floor.
