Stopped here while traveling through on the recommendation of some friends. The food was good, and it was busy as many have commented. It smells like a BBQ place, if you don't like that - you may not want to eat it :)

Now with that said, I feel like this place is a copycat of its northern neighbor Smoque in Chicago. The servings look almost identical and menu is very close. I know with this genre of food it is difficult to be too unique - but it just felt a bit like a ripoff.

First things first, to me there is nothing like eating out where the owner developed his menus, his recipes and people have fallen in love with his food. The food was fabulous, the wait worth it, but it was a beautiful day to hang out on the corner waiting for a table. If you don't want to wait take it home - some times the waiting is the fun part if you are with good company :)

Black Dog has a limited menu because everything they make is top notch, brisket, ribs, catfish, pulled pork, beans, sweet potato fries, you can't go wrong with any of them. What is not limited is the ever-changing beer menu. From IPA to Milk Stout, you'll find quality at Black Dog.

Great chicken with peach barbque sauce. Comes in two different heats. There individual potatoes are yummy and the salsa with hominy is unexpected. We dont drink, but the flights of beer come on a doggy bone shsped tray. Never have had a problem with service, BUT, they are very busy. Go for a late lunch/early supper!

Never again. Just not worth the stress. Dining out is suppose to be a relaxing experience. My night out was nothing near that! We were there on a busy University weekend, so I understand the crowds. However, the crowd control was less than perfect. We arrived at the Black Dog around 5:15pm on a Saturday night and were told the wait would be 30 to 40 minutes. We knew we would wait because everyone raves about this place. It was a pleasant evening, so we waited outside. After 45 minutes we go to check on the wait and were told it would be another 30 minutes. So, I asked "how long would it take to order take out". The hostess replied that it would take 30 minutes for a take out order, so again we decided to wait. After, the next 30 minutes, we start to get the hang of the system and now know that we will still have at least another 30 minute wait. We have so much time invested now, we just hang in there. We are seated one hour and 45 minutes after we arrive, and are happy to be sitting down. BUT guess what, they are running out of food. It is now 7pm on a Saturday and they are out of several items on the menu. We order chips and salsa, which were not very good, but we were so hungry, McDonalds would have been a better option at this point. We order our dinner and drinks, which are served promptly and in good humor. Our waiter never returned to the table to check on us, or to give us the opportunity to order a second drink. We had to go to the bar to get glasses of water. By the time the waiter had time for us, we were done with our food and beverages, he asked if we wanted anything else, we just decided to leave so that the poor people who had been waiting probably two hours at this point, could have a table.
The entire time we were waiting we were afraid we would get sat at the bar, which would have made conversation for our group of three hard, but luckily we were placed at a table.
I can not tell you strongly enough how badly the wait was handled. How can a place that is packed every weekend so grossly underestimate the wait time.
If you need to eat this food, I would highly recommend the the take out, as your time will be much better spent.
As for me, not gonna fool me twice.
