“Best BBQ ever”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

I'm from Texas (Ft. Worth) and am a BBQ chauvinist. Black Dof has the best BBQ beef brisquet, best pork ribs, and best pork rib tips I have ever had. Their meat quality is in a higher league that anybody else in town, in fact, higher than any other place I've been in anywhere, and that's a lot of places. They have several sauces, all good. Fixin's are good too. Beer list is vastly smaller than, e.g. Crane Alley or Radio Maria, but plenty of high quality craft beers.

“Go for the corn bread!”
Reviewed February 7, 2013

Visited on a Sunday, they open at 11:00 a.m. & we didn't get there until around 11:45 so naturally all seating was full and we had to wait for the 2nd turn of the tables & bar seating. We had about a 45-minute wait with about 6 parties ahead of us. Had read many positive reviews on TA about the burnt ends so was excited to order them. They are good, but very different from typical burnt ends that we've had many times in Kansas City at several of our favorite BBQ restaurants (love the KC version which are more charred). Ordered the 3 meat sample platter. The default BBQ sauce is pretty basic & rather boring. The waitress brought us a spicer sauce which was a great improvement. What was spectacular was the corn bread! It alone is worth the trip. Sweet potato fries were good. Service was very friendly.

“Best BBQ in CU”
Reviewed February 1, 2013

This former bar space is the best barbecue in town. It's a no fuss kinda place. Nice environment with a good looking bar and some flat screen TVs, but it's all about the good. The dishes come out on metal plates and paper, but the food needs no fluff.

They have classic Carolina style sauce, so it's vinegar based, but they also have alternate flavors if you prefer more sweet or spicy.

Black dog is ALWAYS crowded, so if you want to come with a big crowd, go during off peak hours. Even if you have a party of two, getting a seat during lunch or dinner time is rough.

Yes, it's that good.

Worth the wait. Sat at the bar and could see all the meals going out. Everything looked good. Bar atmosphere. Will definitely recommend to others.
