“Cold reception here !”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 28, 2014 via mobile

Arrived by bicycle to be informed 3000kip parking and 5000 to see the falls. The 5000kip is essentially an admission charge for entry to the resort as you cannot possibly miss them while having a local brew.More spectacular during the wet season no doubt. You cannot get up close but worth a photo from afar.I say 'cold reception' as the manager, I now know as Alex seemed inconvenienced to have me there and did,nt want to make me a coffee with one of the stove-top pots saying they were for sale.I then noticed they were coffee stained and obviously used.He said only available in the afternoon when I showed him the compacted grounds in one.He then reluctantly made me one which was nice, nicer if it had been made without the fuss.I checked out reviews whilst waiting and quoted his name to him.Being surprised he shook my hand and I gave him mine.He then warmed a little and it became obvious he felt he was run off his feet. The place had only a couple of people there at the time.He then said full everyday. He indicated he was from Hanoi and the job allowed for little time to return home.Perhaps he had justification
for his grievances so this is not a personal attack. But a suggestion
that the powers that be here, create better conditions for their staff and with that more positive feedback from visitors and therefore good for everyone including their success in what is a beautiful natural attraction. On the way-out I raised a wave thanking security he refrained from any response? So perhaps this is an indication of low morale throughout the site. I thought of making Alex aware of such review but could,nt gauge what reaction I would have got in response.Perhaps another visitor with a better experience will. And hopefully such posts can be received as positive criticism.

No words to be added to the beauty of the surroundings, but the factotum manager is totally disappointing: as he was repeatedly saying, he was to busy to do anything we asked. We ate there two times and both times we received plates partially different from what we had ordered. Finally, it is better you arrange a transportation on your own: booking it at Tad Fane could be very expensive. Rooms are nice but need to be renovated. On the contrary, the old man leading us in the jungle and through the coffee plantations was very friendly.

We did not stay at the hotel we just went there only for the coffee workshop. Unfortunately the Workshop was cancelled. The day before we got there we were talking to Mr Kofi he said he was sorry rhat we cannot have the workshop but we could do a tour. We were fine with that. When we arrived there the staff told as that mr kofi was not there but should arrive soon. We waited for two hours and nobody appeared. The staff was unfriendly they seemes like they do not want us to be there. Food was bad. And we also had to pay an entrance fee to get into the resort, though we had an appointment. So it was just a bad experience for us.

We loved this place!
I'll break my rules by discussing others concerns.
Price- some reviewers complain about the cost of the rooms, about $40 sure dear by Laos prices and they are basic, but what would you pay anywhere else in the world? Even for a campsite with this view? This place is the only ones with access to having rooms in the park so a premium is expected

Also at the most they have 12 rooms, and when we were there only 4 others max were occupied, so to make a business of it the prices need to be a it up there.

Food, we found the food really good, some of it was a bit quirky but it's fine to excellant, the fish curry and sweet and sour were very good
Again prices werea touch high, but not excessive and if you consider the only eaters are the guests then there's not many mouths to make it run ok.

Manager - despite what some have said we found him very nice! He has a quirky sense of humour very dry as well. And he is doing most front of house work by himself so he is flat out. He is not deferential to his guests, but he is not rude, and actually positive and cheerful Remember English is not his first or prob second language.

Rooms, clean and tidy, no need for air cond, we had plenty of blankets - it was cool.
I suspect the rats some heard were squirrels on the roof.

We just lazed back and looked at gthe sights, we walked ourselves over to the first waterfall, good shoes essential, only an 80 minute walk return.

Anyway I can highly recommend this place, but take a tolerance pill first, if you're expecting The Shang-Ri-La and valet service.

a must stay at this place while wandering around the bolovan plateau by scooter.

cabins overlooking the luah forests and tad fane falls. clean rooms and bathrooms, very basic but quite cosy!

nights get cold there so dress warmly! no heater or ac.

the restaurant was nice, the food was great!! however the atmosphere was a little bit dull. the stafff are quite ignorant and rude... they dont really seem to care about their guests. (as read in previous comments)

they could make this place so muxh more cosy by playing some music being relaxed and wearing a smile on their face!

we participated in the trek through the falls and coffee plantations with the local guide and dogs with some swimming stops. he does not speak engliah but knows his way perfectly through the area.

when staying here do not miss out on a trip to "tat champi" on the other side of the main road! great swimming spot with raft at the location! the road to get their is amazing through the coffee plantations!

i would definately stay here one night for the experience and magnificent location!

This lodge is situated beautifully on a most dramatic and scenic cliffside directly overlooking Tad Fane waterfalls.

The setting does all the work for the staff who during our stay were unfortunately inattentive (to the point of ignorant), and verging on sullen and rude (this primarily being the bar manager/restaurant/reception man alluded to in previous reviews).

Issues identified;
- rude and pushy manager who was quite unwelcoming and this attitude only developed further during the stay
- hyper inflated restaurant prices (no-where else to eat) albeit ok food.
- rooms not made up
- fan means extractor fan not a ceiling fan (although not hot enough to need one whilst there)
- coffee section appeared unopened and unused despite location in Bolaven Plateau (world famous coffee region)
- scam going on to pay to get into hotel NB YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY ESP IF YOU HAVE A BOOKING

Counter weighting these negative aspects:
- amazing scenery
- interesting walks which can be easily done without guide to the top of the falls through plantation and woods
- reasonable value if booked through agoda or other in advance.

The place rests on its laurels through an unrivalled location. If that is enough to satisfy you then stay here by all means in average accommodation, but do not expect courteous staff or a warm welcome but rather to feel like a bit of a nuisance to be tolerated!! 3 stars (on basis of location primarily!)

This is my dream lodge. I'm not kidding. The most gorgeous views you could hope for. Two levels of dining/relaxing area, all in the tree tops. You feel like you're in a treehouse. Both levels of the social area have fire pits, so you can relax around a roaring fire when it gets chilly and foggy! The food was amazing. Breakfast, which was included, was divine. The rooms are scattered around the forest, overlooking the Tad Fane. Each bungalow is a little bit like a summer camp cabin, but that's what I'd expect all the way out in the Bolaven. I loved it, and would stay for years!
