Hilton Garden Inn Chicago/Tinley Park
Ranked #2 of 9 Hotels in Tinley Park
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 21, 2006

I recently spent 4 nights here and found it to be just fine. This is a mid-range hotel and is what you would expect for a place at that level. The room was very clean. If you are not familiar with Hilton Garden Inns, every room comes with a nice little bookcase/cupboard that includes a microwave, coffee maker, and a moderately large refrigerator (not a mini-fridge). There is a comfortable chair & ottoman. The bathroom has a moderately large amount of counter space. Other than that it is a pretty standard bathroom...nothing special. The indoor pool is pretty large...there is a seperate hot tub. The outside deck is tiny, but well furnished with chaises and tables with chairs (no umbrellas). The pool furniture is high quality--no white plastic resin junk! They have free cookies available at the front desk in the evening. All the staff I encountered were friendly and efficient. Even though the hotel was full, I didn't experience any noise problems. The location is convenient. You can go a mile or two north or south on Rt. 45 and encounter dozens of restaurants and stores. I highly recommend Beggars' for excellent pizza. It is close by...south on Rt.45, just past I-80 on 191st street. You can practically see it from the hotel. They deliver or there is an eat-in restaurant including other Italian dishes. I have stayed in several other Tinley Park hotels and I guarantee that this one is the best.

Unlike the only other review, I did not find the staff to be "rude" at all. I was in town on business, and unfortunately all other hotels were booked in a 30 minute radius of the city. (Just because you just got married, does not mean you have to get discounts wherever you go, what are you a senior?) And their check out time IS 12 noon, not 11am. Dunno where they got 11am from?

The rooms were very clean, the hotel is fairly new. All equipped with bar fridges, and microwave - very convenient. The rooms are pretty big, and so were the showers! Only complaint, the carpets looked stained with black, or dark marks. My room was with a jacuzzi in the corner of the room by the bed, so I think they are from people tracking water, but it makes the carpets look dirty. Odd thing, the light above the jacuzzi worked intermittantly. Seemed to NOT work at night, and worked when I'd try it in the am. Bizarre!

The hotel's "Business Center" was far better than any other I've seen in a hotel. Only a few problems with it. Their "remote secure print" feature can only load full documents to print, not individual pages from said document. That also meant you could not print from the internet from your room, which I had to rely on the hotel front desk staff. I guess I could have printed pages from the net IN the business centre. Nonetheless, all directions I ever needed were given with promptness, and were accurate. Printing is free, which was usefull as I needed last minute business presentations printed. This can also save you having to do so in advance, and lugging around a ton of paper with you during your travels. Another flaw in the "Business Center" is minimal applications on their PC. They didn't have Office, so I could not open my Power Point files on the computer. Once again, I was relying on the front desk staff. I can't say enough how helpful and competant they were in assisting me with my business needs. The highspeed internet is free, but I forgot my data cable. Once again, NO PROBLEM! They gave me a bridge to use at no cost, which gave me wireless access. I could work on my PC on my bed, watching TV if I wanted to, or in the lobby, or outside! The connection was kind of slow though.

I was also disappointed that not even a continental breakfast was included.

Just a note, there is a train service nearby that can take you into the city if you want to avoid the drive. I believe it was only $4 and it took about 1 hour or so. Same as driving but without the headaches, and additional parking $ downtown.

Overall, the hotel is VERY nice, and VERY clean. I found the staff to be of excellent and courteous service. Definate recommendation, especially if your travelling on business.

My husband and I stayed here on our wedding night on 9/4/05. After speaking with the staff 3 times via phone about the fact that I was booking a room for our WEDDING NIGHT, we received no upgrade or special service what-so-ever. (On our honeymoon, at two different hotels we received amazing upgrades due to the fact we were on our honeymoon). I ended up booking a king suite, which was large enough, but with an akward floorplan (the sofas were in another room, so there was no additional seating in the bedroom besides the actual bed). The front desk person was rude, even when I mentioned we were on our honeymoon. After saying that the 11 am check out time was too early, as we were not even checking in until almost 1am that day, we were allowed to stay one extra hour until 12 noon. The breakfast buffet was pricey and not at all that abundant. All in all, it was a decent stay, but I wouldn't reccommend it over the other hotels in Tinley Park. One must remember that this is the Hilton GARDEN INN, and not the Hilton HOTEL. This facility does not rise to the Hotel's status.
