“Good budget buy”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2013

This hotel is as good as or better than any of the more expensive hotels nearby. You won't get the toiletries available from front desk, but you will get a mini fridge, hair dryer, clean bed, and tv which is just enough to get through going to Tinley Park for a conference. The bed was on the firm side and the windows didn't open, but this La Quinta was overall a good place to stay for the price. While it looks a bit shady and run down in the hallways, the room was good. My room had a sink/mirror outside the bathroom (in the main room) so if you are traveling with someone and want to get ready in the morning without waking them it might be tough. (Note: Continental breakfast was a little shaky -- milk was in cartoon on counter and was warm to the touch and no fruit available; cereal and pastries/breads were available. If you aren't picky, this place is a good budget buy.

This hotel has helped restore my faith in La Quinta, which had been dented by previous poor experiences. I arrived tired after an 8 hour flight and 2 hour wait at Immigration, and was revived by the very friendly welcome from the receptionist who plied me with free water and cookies. The room was comfortable and clean and there was a good range of items at breakfast. The price was also reasonable, and much lower than nearby hotels that I have previously used and which did not offer anything much more for the higher price. My only concern was that there was quite a lot of noise through the night from vehicles using the neighbouring gas station.

The rooms were clean and overall very nice. Beds were comfortable. Air conditioning was nice and cold. We had our small dog with us. Didn't hear any dogs so not sure if there were any staying in the hotel.

This hotel gets the important things right and the rest we could live easily considering the low price we paid.
The Good:
The room was clean, had a comfortable bed and had a great, easy to use tv remote and decent shower. The breakfast was acceptable considering it's free (bagels, cereal, waffles, muffins, milk, OJ). The room had a fridge AND a microwave.

The Bad:
Some noise from other guests, smoky hallways, and an outdated lobby area.
The exterior of the building looks old and dirty, but once we were in our nice room, we didn't care.

Also, there are LOTS of restaurants within 2 miles of this hotel both fast food and sit down plus it's right off of Hwy 80....very convenient.
Overall, it's a true 2.5 star property (and I mean that in a good way) and worth the low price we paid.

Our stay in this hotel was pleasant. We had a king bed room that turned out to have both a refrigerator and microwave - something we weren't expecting, but a pleasant surprise. The room had room-darkening shades that actually darkened the room. The room climate control seemed to work well and the hotel was fairly quiet. This hotel was just off I-80, making it convenient to travel to the east of Chicago. The only area where this hotel fell short was the breakfast - it was not bad, but nothing special either. The only hot item was do-it-yourself waffles, the rest was standard continental breakfast fare.

I sent a letter of complaint to the general manager re: our stay at the Tinley Park LaQuinta Inn. This, our first stay at any LaQuinta, put a very bad taste in our mouth. Their website totally misrepresented the fact that they had no smoking rooms (yet they gave the radio button option to choose non-smoking or smoking rooms... why? Not sure. Confusing.) Then upon arrival I was treated rudely by front desk staff and found the hot tub empty with "caution" tape all around it. Nowhere at the website did it state that construction would be going on impacting the pool/hot tub area. As it turns out, hot tub is not due to be repaired till mid-July per LaQuinta GM. Shouldn't travelers be told this when booking? Just felt deceived and didn't deserve the lip service I received at check-in when I explained that I was not satisfied with all the "surprises" I found at check-in. The GM offered us compensation for our stay, which is appreciated. But we will not be returning until the facilities are back to working order (after July provided hot tub is functional again...)

Room Tip: Make sure you are not booked across the hall or near the "Staff Only" office if you're...

We've always had good luck at La Quinta hotels, and this was no exception. It's difficult to find pet-friendly hotels, but when we need to take our dog we always seem to turn to La Quinta. We stayed one night on June 14, 2013 with our dog. We came to town for a wedding that evening, so we dropped him off at the hotel before going to the ceremony. Now as a side note, we've been to hotels before that won't let you leave your dog unattended (even though we usually do!). I understand the reasoning for it, obviously so they can have somebody control an unruly or loud dog. Our dog is neither, ever. This hotel lets you leave your well-behaved pets alone.

As for the hotel itself, it is of older architecture and style but the inside has been remodeled and updated. Our room was clean and modern, as you would expect from a hotel chain such as this. Breakfast area was also updated, and the food spread was quite acceptable and tasty. It was also reasonably priced for the area, even though I always think hotels are overpriced.

Staff was friendly and helpful. You can tell the staff likes dogs, as we had at least two staff members stop and say hi to our dog. This always makes my wife happy. It's a nice (safe) area with plenty of grass around the hotel for doggy duties.

If you're not a dog owner, never fear. The vast majority of guests had no dogs, and it doesn't smell like dogs or anything. You'd never know it's pet friendly unless you actually saw a pet. Even though there were a few other guests there with dogs, I didn't hear a single bark the entire time.

I would highly recommend this hotel, dog owner or not. It's a very nice hotel in its price range.
