If you hanker after an old-fashioned (no offence intended),friendly pub with no pool table,no juke box and well-kept ales,The Valentine is for you. I'm very fortunate in that I can call the "Vally" my local and whole heartedly commend it to anyone seeking a quiet, relaxing drink away from the hustle and bustle. There are a variety of rooms in which you can kick back and chill out,and a small, secluded beer garden where a bar-b-q is available on Sunday afternoons, weather permitting. The pub is well-known locally for its quiz-nights which are always fun,and regularly have acoustic entertainment. The Valentine is run by a delightful couple who get to know their customers by name and will push the boat out for special occasions.Child and dog-friendly,also!
There is even a book exchange, where you can swap books of all kinds...the pub opens at 3pm and is a grand place for a quiet read before the tea-time regulars come in. In the winter months, you can literally curl up in front of a blazing log-fire! Free wi-fi is always available.
The fact that they do not serve hot food is by no means a "failing"....in fact, the landlady's cheese boards are legendary!
