My daughter, her fiance and I stayed here for three nights at the end of a three week trip. I would have to say this was much nicer in so many ways than staying in a large faceless hotel. Extremely hospitable hosts and a lovely house, very tastefully presented, with a relaxed homely feel. The house is in a nice area and although buses are easy to pick up, this is a little way out from the harbour area. Some kind guests gave us their unused bus/train/ferry tickets and we made good use of these! Unfortunately for us it rained for three days! Book well in advance for a room here. We booked all our accommodation with the help of tripadvisor and were impressed with the accuracy of all reviews so I thought it would help others if we made the effort to add our review too. Many thanks to Julian and Brom and our best to you for the future.

What can we say?!!!!..Myself, my husband and young daughter (under one) had the pleasure of staying in Tara House for four nights and we can't speak highly enough of both the accommodation and the hosts, Brom and Julian. They are such wonderful, easygoing, sociable people who made us feel very welcome and at home. We also had the pleasure of meeting some extended family who also share these qualities. We can honestly say that we can't report on any negative points at all so here's all the positives for anyone considering an alternative stay to an impersonal inner city hotel. Pick up and drop off the the airport, personal orientation to area, internet access, beautiful spacious bedrooms (we stayed in two rooms), great transport links to city (bus takes 20-25 minutes and you can see so much of the area on your way - the train is quicker if that's what you prefer) , funky area with lots of shops and cafes, beautiful garden, Ollie the collie and Rose o'clock! The house is decorated with numerous pieces of artwork, some of which are of the human form including Molly the dolly! We thought this was good fun and illustrated both Brom and Julian's flair for interior design and sense of humour. Breakfast was a definite highlight in that it had a lovely community feel, everyone sits around the most fabulous table telling tales of the previous days events and swopping traveller tips. The food that is provided is second to none and as Julian says, if you need lunch - he has failed! They provided us with a fantastic seat for our daughter and family heirlooms/toys. We would definitely stay here again if we returned to Sydney. Tara house is truly a little treasure. Having travelled much of the world, this is one of the friendliest, homely B and Bs we have stayed in. Well done Brom and Julian!

A beautiful property in a great location. The friendliest and most helpful of hosts ever. Brom gives fantastic suggestions about what to do here, whether you have been before or are first timers in Sydney. Amazing breakfasts (including freshly squeezed orange juice), lovely rooms, gorgeous bathrooms and important for us, WiFi. Will be staying here when we return to Sydney.

I think the best thing about TARA are Brom and Julian, we could have sat and chatted with them for hours over our fabulous breakfast and amazing lattes. Their coffee is better than any we had at any coffee shop and the breakfast was so big we were full until dinner.

Brom gave us a great map and suggested things for us to do. We felt very comfortable at TARA and would recommend it to anyone going to Sydney!

Think of walking in to an Italian Villa somewhere in Tuscany only your are now in Sydney Australia. Upon entry there is a gorgeous dog named Ollie who greets you and welcomes you in to a world of a wonderful traveling experience that one cannot get anywhere else in the world.
I was picked up at the airport by our host Brom who immediately brought me back to Tara House for tea, an orientation and then showed me where to begin my day site seeing. The next morning as every morning was a breakfast feast like no other prepared by both Julian and Brom in the state of the art kitchen and dinning area. The plates of hot fresh food placed in front of the guests helped to create a community/family atmosphere as the coffee flowed into our cups so did the conversations between travelers at the table along with wonderful stories from both Julian and Brom.
The public transportation is perfect to get around same as on foot to explore the many sites and neighborhoods of Newtown and Sydney. I highly recommend taking the Architectural tour by Eoghan Lewis and to see the White Rabbit Gallery.

We loved our two nights at Tara. Brom and Julian are lovely, friendly hosts. They were really accommodating. The house is very interesting and also welcoming but also very 'down to earth'. The breakfast - as you will have read elsewhere - was fantastic. The location was fine - we have "done" the inner city hotels to death and liked staying somewhere more suburban yet still within an easy reach of the city. The area is quite funky and there is plenty to do. The pick up from the airpoert was great too. Highly recommended. We look forward to our next visit.
Julian and Browm - nga mihi nui ki a korua, from your New Zealand fans!

I would agree with all the good reviews posted here on Tripadvisor. The owners of this guesthouse, Julian and Brom, are two of the nicest people you will ever meet. They go out of their way to make you welcome, and as everyone here has said, the breakfast is amazing! I think this place is particularly good for solo travellers as Julian picks you up from the airport, the area is safe, it is close to public transport and good cafes, and you get to mingle with guests at the communal breakfasts (which is a great way to get to know the good spots to see in Sydney, get to meet fellow travellers etc). The guesthouse itself is very clean and spacious and full of wonderful art works. I want to come back to Sydney just to stay here again!!
