When Arriving at the premier inn I was surprised at the quiet location which was lovely. It has a lovely pub The Old Bell next door, with what looks like a very appealing beer garden in the summer a bit cold and rainy in March.

Reception were very friendly and welcoming and gave me all the information needed. Check Inn was very efficiant. When going to the room I was slightly concerned after reading about bad smells so I was very pleasantly surprised the room smelled fresh and was extremely clean. The bed, quilt and pillows were so comfortable I didnt want to get out of bed the next day.

We had dinner at the old bell, which was fantastic very cosy with and open fires and lots of candles. The menu was fantastic with some very interesting specials which you wouldnt usually expect to find on a pub menu ie Lamb Kleftico and Red Snapper to mention just a couple.

Overall we were very pleased with the price and felt it was value for money. They do guarantee a good nights sleep this is what we got and more.

I didn't notice the outside air smell that the others mentioned, but the room had a very strong sour and stale smell. They were in the process of giving the walls a lick of paint and putting in new beds (which are excellent and soft with a great duvet) however the places needs a considerable greater renovation than is being done which included replacing the carpets and furniture as well a modernizing the bathrooms. Also, I found it odd that although this is advised as being in Reading it actually is quite a bit off the M4 in the middle of the countryside. If you didn't have a car, you would have quite a taxi expense. Mary at the front desk was really an asset and was the shining point of the visit. The restaurant next door had great food.

Quiet and scenic area. However, as soon as arrived in car park noticed a strong smell of methane. Room was not ready for us even though we turned up around 4pm and the cleaning staff looked untrustworthy! Room not been cleaned properly and the bathroom had seen better days! The shower did not work properly either. We had a meal in the adjacent pub, the Old Bell, which was very good. Surprisingly, the breakfast in the pub was very poor (the sausages were bright pink and did not look a bit appetising). Methane smell still strong in the morning, which we learned has been like it for a long time and nothing has been done. We complained on leaving and got a full refund.

Booked via the premier inn website

Nice welcome on arrival however the stay went down hill from there,

Someone had used the toilet in the room before my arrival and not flushed it-an issue for the "cleaners"
The non smoking room smelt of stale smoke,
On leaving the main block for the restaurant you are greeted by the smell from the sewage works-good if you are on a diet!
the hotel is a good distance from the motorway let alone the town, so is okay if you want somewhere in the sticks
if you are staying on business don’t fax the central number but get the direct fax number as the original fax will not make it but a Chinese whisper version

They do a "good night guaranteed or your money back" this hotel must be a loss leader

This is a really good Premier Travel Inn. Great pub next door called the Old Bell and the food is fantastic. They also do breakfast and children under 16 years old eat free. Staff very friendly at Reception and also in the Old Bell.
