This is an below par location, aging decor but the staff are friendly. The wee waif is perfect for a cheap bite to eat, but the food is average, and in some cases not that great value for money.

the menu is vast so there will always be something that you like

The Wee Waif is a few miles from Reading town centre just off a dual carriage way with not much around apart from houses. The motel its self is in serious need of updating but the room in which I stayed was ok. The bed was unbelievably soft but lumpy and if you were not in the middle of the bed you would easily roll out. Included in the room is an en suite with over the bath shower which again could do with updating but was clean and functional. There was an iron and ironing board in the room, tea and coffee making facilities, flat screen tv and a writing desk with chair. Part of the motel is a pub which I'm sorry to say also needs a lick of paint. There is a pool table and dart board. The drinks prices are reasonable but however, I did not try the food. Overall my stay was ok. Probably would not go out of my way to stay again but if I had to it would not be the end of the world.

We booked into here and to be fair, for the price of the rooms compared to other places in the area its alright. Although, I say alright, i mean bad, well I say bad, I mean disgusting.

The mattress and bedding was awful, lumpy, worn out and terrible to lay on. The room only had 2 plug sockets and the tea making facilities, the kettle was fury inside and just yuck!

However, this was all beaten by the blood stained hand print on the wall. Truely like a horror movie or your worst nightmare.

The only saving grace is the fact that the pub does great hangover cure food and breakfast.

Went to reception to check in receptionist was hardly friendly then the phone rang she carried on along conversation,i would say around 7 or so mins, with what appears to have been a waste collection company without acknowledging us and the fact we were stood waiting. Her rudeness was shocking.i now find out she is the duty manager !! God help us .if this is how you want to welcome your guests and promote your company keep this person otherwise move her on!

Motel with Hungry Horse 'diner'. Friendly, helpful welcome in reception. Room with TV, coffee making facilities, hairdryer, coffee table and two armchairs (so you don't have to drink your coffee perched on the bed). Clean enough but I've got a thing about mouldy window frames and stained tiling grout... Bed too soft for me but that's another personal thing. Squeaky floorboard noise from upstairs room at 11.00pm and again at 6.15am. Apart from that, the room was surprisingly quiet between those hours. Bathroom average. Over-bath shower okay.
Food in the Hungry Horse (tables need regular attention) is pub grub at the lowest end of the spectrum. Veggie choice limited to 3 including the weird 'open cauliflower cheese pie' which was, quite frankly, horrible. Maybe because it was undercooked? The veggie burger was highly seasoned and tasted of curry powder and chilli. It came with spot the salad but twice the amount of chips as anyone else. Chips slightly undercooked. The men were reasonably happy with their chicken platter. Although they ordered the same meal, both looked different with one minus salad (a few lettuce leaves and one slice of tomato) and one minus onion rings. Thursday night is free dessert night - June 2012 - with a big platter. The meal of 4 mains and 3 free desserts, which were, actually, really nice although very sweet, cost less than £25. You don't expect gastronomy at that price but you do expect cooked and edible. Slow service at the bar and for ordering food at times, but it was quiz night.
Breakfast charged at £3.99 for buffet/continental and £6.99 for a cooked breakfast. Continental breakfast buffet was what you'd expect (although I Iike my croissants warm) and it was 'okay'. Location for us was perfect as we had a family gathering in Woodley. However staying for more than one night might mean driving further up or down A404 to find somewhere better to eat in the evening.

Room Tip: Go upstairs. Less floorboard noise.

The hotel which is akin to a Travel Lodge has a Hungry Horse Restaurant attached. Very very average. Poor quality meat...very fatty steak...frozen chips etc. Staff were pleasant enough but eating is about the food and more importantly the ingredients which are, sadly very poor here. It is cheap and cheerful but for a few pounds more you can have a good meal nearby.

The Manager is near there when the is trouble and the staff .
There is no manager on hand though the night to stop trouble, the restaurant with a pub is next door and the fights that take place is not good.
You can talk to the staff till your blue in the face but nothing gets though.
Rest my case.

Room Tip: Dont its to noise
