We had booked months in advance arriving at 1pm for a 1.30pm table on a Sunday - first sitting is an hour earlier. Greeted warmly, had a drink at the bar and shown to our table by a window at the back of the restaurant. Note there is no view of the sea! As we pondered our main courses we were advised there was no more fish - all sold! Starters were excellent - chicken terrine stood out and healthy sized. Non-fish mains were very good although the pork loin had a lot of fat. Desserts amazing. Atmosphere good. Fair price - not overly expensive but some might find it a bit rich for a gastropub. Staff friendly and are aware of the fish issue! Advice is to book to sit down and order sharpish!

A brilliant place with a gastropub feel but Michelin starred food. Also a short but well chosen wine list at reasonable prices.

My 3rd visit for their taster menu, and it doesn't disappoint, seriously great food, served by great staff and a great wine list. Bear in mind that I booked 7 months in advance for a Saturday. I will let the pictures do the talking for me, suffice to say every single plate was emptied. Do what we do and don't take the menu, let each course appear and be a surprise - a delicious way to spend over 3 hours.

This is our fourth visit here and they still never fail to serve the best seafood with relaxed atmosphere- not being rushed off the table it’s yours for the duration of your dining experience however long that may be: the lodges are now open we stayed in the yellow one - didn’t want to leave was so peaceful and to wake up to birdsong was amazing - no noise at all , we had the breakfast package and even though had to cook our own the quality of products was top notch ! The lodge is home from home with everything you need even new toothbrushes- if you want a good meal and a lovely relaxed evening sat on Veranda this is the place to be and tea in the morning sun surrounded by wild flowers watching bees dip in and out of the poppies and giant daisies ! The Harris brothers and your families and staff - thank you we will be back next June for 2 nights stay next time as one night of bliss peace is just not enough !
Thank you
Mel & Steve
(Just 2 small negatives WiFi is awful , also there was a stain on the sheet as we pulled duvet back which would have been seen by whoever made to room up , on close inspection looks like a rust mark so didn’t make a big thing about it but wasn’t pleasant when we first saw it )

The daily tasting at The Sportsman must be the best food Ive experienced! 9 beautifully presented courses served at a relaxed pace.... we stayed for 3 hours! The atmosphere is relaxed and casual, quite unusual for a place serving such special food. Staff are easy going, knowledgable and attentive without being too intrusive. The pictures say it all...sadly the chicken in truffle sauce and the board of 3 breads are missing.
