We stayed two nights. It was quiet and charming. Close to the Springfield and the Lincoln attractions. Doug and Rosalie Polite were helpful and delightful. The seafood restaurant in Springfield that they recommended was the best and I am from New England. It was a wonderful experience. I look forward to visiting again.

We really enjoyed staying at this beautifully restored 1871 mansion. Doug and Rosalie are very capable hosts who knew all about the area's historic sites. We will stay here again! The rooms are bright and comfortable, with full bathrooms in each one.

My wife and I came there for a very short getaway. We were super impressed by the house... very beautiful inside and out, with tasteful decorations and interesting touches, such as the cool staircase and the three-story chandelier.

The owners, Doug and Rosalie Polite, were super nice and did their last name justice! We were greeted by Doug and their little friendly dog, quite a nice welcoming committee.

They got us into the Lincoln Museum for free the next day, and were very accommodating our entire time we were there. Doug gave us directions to the supermarket when we told him we wanted to pick up some wine and cheese, and they hooked us up with all the plates and glasses we needed for our snack. Breakfast the next day was quite delicious.

We stayed in the Cornelius room, the one with the Jacuzzi tub, and we think it's quite worth it to pay the little extra for this relaxing feature.

I gave it four stars instead of five because of a tiny little quibble- there aren't TVs in the bedrooms (at least there wasn't in ours). When we get away- as superficial as it sounds- we like to completely veg out and watch hours of TV. There was a TV in the parlor, and we were the only guests, so we basically had the house to ourselves, people who can't amuse themselves without a television in the room may be thrown a little bit.

Their house is well-stocked with books though- I learned a lot about the Civil War!

I would definitely come back here, and I would recommend Flagg Farmstead to anyone who likes seclusion and wants to stay a bit away from Springfield, and who is into gorgeous architecture. Thanks for the great weekend!

We spent the weekend at the Flagg Farmstead. This really is a farm! It's rural, but close to everything. The setting is peaceful, and the home is very relaxing. My wife and I had lots of time to read and enjoy the fireplace! Breakfast is so delicious, and the coffee pot is available early! The rooms are wonderful and spacious. Each room has a private bath. Doug and Rose are wonderful hosts. You can't go wrong when staying here! You are also given complementary tickets to local museums - which is an added value bonus. When in the Springfield area - stay here!!! I can't wait to return! There is no TV in the room, which is actually something we liked! We wanted peace and quiet - and we got it!

Room Tip: The New Salem room had a lovely sunset view!

How very comfortable we were in the five bedrooms, with private baths, all decorated in the style of the circa 1871 brick home which is The Flagg Farmstead Bed and Breakfast. Doug and Rosalie welcomed us and served delicious breakfasts! It was perfect for celebrating my birthday with my four sisters - now, all over eighty! It's a perfect location from which to visit the wonderful Lincoln Museum in Springfield and the reconstructed New Salem village where Lincoln lived and worked early in his career. The Polites recommended a good restaurant in Springfield for dinner which was great, as well. All within easy driving distance from the lovely setting of the Flagg Farmstead in Sherman, IL. My birthday cake made by the Incredibly Delicious bakery was just what the name implies. History buffs and casual tourists will delight in staying at the Flagg Farmstead. Thanks, Rosalie and Doug; we'd love to come back. Hoyl and Judy Lockett

We found our way back to The Flagg Farmstead for another lovely stay. Rosalie and Doug go out of their way to make sure that you are happy. This time we chose the Cornelius Flagg room, as the shower area is larger (Jacuzzi tub), because we are tall folks. Breakfast was good and so was the conversation. Such a friendly place...we will be back again, next time we come through this way.

Room Tip: If you are a tall person, check-out the Cornelius Flagg room.

This b and b, on the old coach road that Lincoln rode on, is relaxing and stimulating. Stimulating due to the historic nature of the building and nearby Springfield with so many places to learn of Lincoln. Relaxing because of the way one is treated. The hosts, Doug and Rosalie go out of their way to make one feel comfortable and well fed. I'd recommend it to anyone.
