Holiday Inn Club Vacations Fox River Resort

My boyfriends parents has a timeshare and we decided to spend a week with them. We were in the Presidential Suites with 2 fully equipped kitchens. Loved the balcony that faced the woods and the pond. We didn't do any of the activities or eat in the center but we did use the pool on our last full day there. It was a bit crowded and you cannot bring any food or drink in there which is a negative thing because we couldn't stay as long as we would have liked because of hunger and you lose your chairs the minute you get up! Of course it was a holiday weekend so it's too be expected. Another BIG DISAPPOINTMENT is there is no wifi in that whole resort besides the activity center. That was just ridiculous in a resort of that size which also promotes longer stays. We will be back and participate in some of the activities for sure!

Room Tip: Ask for Presidential Suites. There is NO Internet in rooms. If it's a full house don't plan...

Fox River Resort is a family friendly resort that offers many things to do with the family. Mini golf, canoeing, paddle boating, par 3 golf course, and indoor/outdoor swimming pool. They are also working on a water park that will be completed later this year. Some of the help were not very helpful or competent. We also experienced our fire alarm going off at 5 AM and the maintenance man came 20 minutes later and as he walked up admitted that he didn't know how to shut it off. The alarm was clearly not connected to a fire station. The entire building would have burned to the ground at the speed the maintenance man worked, When asked why a fire department wasn't alerted, he responded, "Did you call the fire department?" I don't think that is the job of the guests of a resort!!!!!!!
Another major negative was no WIFI in the condos. The only hot spot was at the activity center and that even was not that great.
The resort could also invest in better tissues and toilet paper!! Both were like cardboard!!!
We were at the resort over the 4th of July and would not recommend the Sheridan parade, but would recommend Ottawa's fireworks. They were spectacular!!!!
Overall we had a very good family week and were grateful for Matt's (RCI director) hard work in getting our family into the Presidental Building and getting us all on the same floor.
We would return and we would recommend this place to others.

We took this timeshare place bc we wanted our friends from Chicago to come stay with us. Chicago is about 1 1/2 hrs. away. The ride is pleasant, the area woodsy and lots of farmland surrounding it. The condo was decent, we had a nice view of the lake. We stayed in the President's area. We didn't participate in any of the activities offered but it would be a nice place for families as they have a lot to keep kids busy. The furniture could use some updating, but our guests had a full bedroom with a tiny kitchen and bathroom all to themselves! I don't use the jacuzzi tubs in these places bc I'm never sure how they clean them! The master bedroom was large and comfortable. We spent some time at Starved Rock park, and took side trips every day to small surrounding towns. Took a boat ride that was pulled by a donkey walking alongside.............skip it. But I think it's Lasalle and it has a very nice Welcome Center, wonderful cafe and gift center. This place served it's purpose-we were able to visit with old friends in a quiet atmosphere.

We've been there twice. And we'd go again. We live in Ontario so it's not too fat away. That was the main reason for choosing this Resort.
There is alot to do on the property, such as a cafeteria style eating area & a small movie theatre (holds about 20 people) inside the Activity Center, there's horseback riding available, a variety scheduled family activities, mini golf on property, a golf course on property, a large indoor pool and lots of camping areas (we didn't camp, so I don't know the details)
Our room was very rustic, it made us feel warm and comfy. The beds were a bit hard. But that would be my only complaint.
BTW I don't remember the name of the restaurant just outside the resort - a little pizza place - it had the BEST pizza I've ever tasted.

Room Tip: Make sure the Air conditioner is in good working order before unpacking.

We spent a week at this resort in early June. We were in the President's building.
The condo was spotless, the beds comfortable with plenty of towels. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook and bake. The miniature golf was fun (even though it was raining lightly). There were movies to check out and fun things to do in the activity center. The indoor swimming pool was spacious and warm. We went to Starved Rock State Park for hiking. It was exactly what we were looking for! A week of quiet and nature. We have stayed at other time shares and this was on of the best. I don't know what anyone could complain about. Timeshares usually don't have housekeeping. We could have had towels changed at anytime. We were very pleased. The 11 and 12 year old girls with us had a blast!! We would stay again anytime.

Room Tip: Try to stay in the President's buildings. They were great. I did not see the other section.

I stayed there for the complimentary weekend where you have to attempt the "90" minutes meeting (that really is for almost 3 hours or even longer because every time you say "no" to them they keep going back and fort to talk to manager if they can get you a better deal. They just do not take "no" for an answer. Finally they they get it, they are no longer nice to you (the managers, the sales reps are actually nice people. - that is their marketing and customer service of that company. The sales guy we had, was a very nice guy who understood, but had to do his job and go to the manager when we said no. When they show you the rooms so you can buy in into the time share are new, updated. That's said.....
We got out room, and first thing my 2 1/2 old son did, was find a dead Cockroach! Well, I came from the country and I do not need luxurious rooms to be comfortable in, but cockroaches? No thank you. After complaining, we got a new room (with no cockroaches). To be honest, the rooms are ok, but you can not expect any luxury there. The furniture functional, but as well as the appliances, it seen better days - rustic. They did say, they will update, but I think they meant they will build the water park, but the rooms will most likely stay. We had to move some chairs to different rooms, because they were not too stable and the furniture was not designed with toddlers in mind. Most of the good scenic hiking to do have to take car and drive about 30-45 minutes, there is a back horse riding (with a fee), mini-golf, golf, a room with a lager TV and couple chairs (they call it the theater), free DVD rental, small restaurant (not the state of the art - just a very plain countryside restaurant), and they do have an indoor and an outdoor swimming pool (they are not too big, and the outdoor looks nicer that the indoor). So overall, if you want a quick getaway from the City, spend your time with your kids talking, walking playing games (board), and do not care about old appliances and furniture or if by a chance you might find cockroaches and be moved to other room (make sure it is in different building) than this is a place for you.

No tengo ninguna queja. El personal atento. La recepcion pudiese tener computadoras para los huespedes y mejorar un poco la recepcion.

We chose to stay in this resort because it was centrally located for activities we were planning. Through RCI we traded for a two bedroom suite and the unit was very large and comfortable with two bedrooms and full baths. We drove in to Chicago (1 hour 15 minutes). We went to Joliet (30 minutes) to gamble and downtown Utica (20) minutes to eat and shop the downtown area. The kitchen is well equipped and there are grills outside for guests to use. We played miniature golf and my husband and father played golf on the 5 hole course on the resort. All free. There is also a pool, horse back riding and water activities. Check in was easy and the staff was friendly and helpful.
