Upon the advice of a friend (who owns property nearby in this region) we booked a four night stay at Cherry House and were thoroughly delighted with all it delivered. Win and David greeted us at the railway platform in Bologna and before heading for Polinago were treated to a wonderful walking tour of old Bologna. We had been travelling for three weeks and being at Cherry house felt like a real "home". The food was first rate, (including cooking demonstrations by Win), room very comfortable and what a delightful little village Polinago proved to be. During our stay the Giro D'Italia bike race came thru the village. The locals dressed the town up in pink bunting and balloons and it seemed the entire population came out to celebrate and witness the event. We had been told that Italians love their cycle race events and this was certainly a highlight of our stay. We visited a working dairy and also the cheese making factory where we witnessed Parmesan cheese being produced. The scenery of the area is amazingly beautiful and we very much enjoyed being expertly driven around the area by David with Win filling us in on the history of side of things. The local butcher even gave us a personal tour of their cool room and a free portion of their pork mince, thanks to Win being the wonderful go between host. This place is off the beaten...More
