“Try a Turtle Sundae--A St. Charles Tradition!”
Reviewed September 23, 2012

Yes, Colonial has been serving exceptional ice cream for over 50 years now. Of course, it's a good place to go for the sundaes, but the food is decent as well--whether you go for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The menu is varied; something for everyone, from chicken pot pie to a Reuben sandwich. (when was the last time you had a Reuben?) An additional Colonial Cafe was recently opened on the west side of town; the food is the same, but the ambiance isn't--unless you like the "Jetson's Futuristic" style. It's a definite step up from the chain restaurants in the area.....

“Love this place!”
Reviewed September 19, 2012

We only ate here because it was walking distance from our motel, but we came back a second time because of the friendly service and menu choices were plentiful. There is something for everyone. I highly recommend the pumpkin pancakes with cinnamon butter.

“A local legend”
Reviewed September 19, 2012

Colonial Cafes have been in the western suburbs for a long, long time. The food is really good, however, the locals come here for the wonderful ice cream treats. They make their own and it's a delight. The main feature is what they call the Kitchen Sink. It's huge and served in a mini-kitchen sink. Finish it all and it's yours free. Stomach pump not included.

A great place to go to for food or dessert.

“Nothing great”
Reviewed September 6, 2012

This is an average greasy spoon. It is a family restaurant which was founded on deserts (ice cream) and branched out. Went 2x, 7pm and 10am. Each time the service was very slow, 1/2 hour and 3/4 hour, to get food. This was when the restaurant had less than 20 people in it each time. Most of the food is on the greasy side. If you like this sort of thing, the restaurant will be fine.
