Over a year ago this restaurant was forced to close due to structural damage to the building. It was, at best, a mediocre restaurant with tired and dated decor. Now it's back and better than ever: new owners, new chef, new decor, and a great new attitude. Having a taste for Chinese food and wanting to check out the new Szechwan, my wife and I went there this evening. We were warmly greeted by one of the owners and promptly seated. For our appetizers we shared the egg rolls. The wrapper was light and crispy and the vegetable and shrimp filling was fresh and tasty. Our main courses were the Empress Chicken and Mongolian Chicken. The Empress dish was all white chicken meat that was lightly battered and served with fresh, crunchy, vegetables. This entree was excellent, blending the right amount of heat with the perfect mixture of textures. The Mongolian dish too had good, but not overpowering spice and crisp vegetables. I cannot emphasize enough the freshness of the ingredients. We substituted pork fried rice for the white rice, this too was a good decision. Again, freshly prepared and seasoned. The portions are ample and would be easy to share, or have take home leftovers. There used to be just average Chinese food in the Fox Valley; happily those days are over.
