“Nice Hotel - Convenient to the Airport - not to Downtown”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 18, 2009

This would be a hotel I would choose if I had a layover, but not as a base to experience Chicago. Nice rooms, two LCD flat panel televisions, standard bathroom, refridgerator, nice bedding. As you check in, ask for breakfast coupons (even if your rate doesn't include breakfast) - you may get them - I did!

Parking $18 is expensive.

It was just plain dirty. On arrival, there was an empty beer glass outside the door to our room, and there it stayed for 24 hours. The bathroom in our suite had visible dirt & hair--gross! There was no plastic bag with which to line the ice bucket, which I think is a fairly standard item. The pool area was completely gross, and the water was opaque. Ew! The hot tub had yellow caution tape wrapped around it on the 2nd night of our stay.

If you're willing to risk it, the rooms have a great setup for families. The entry room is a living area, separated from the sleeping area by the bathroom and a door which actually closes! Some suites are more of a studio-style, but these are better by far. I thought the decor was nicely up to date, with black & white photos of downtown Chicago. There is a free shuttle to O'Hare, from where you can grab the train into downtown. The hotel does charge you for parking, $18 per night.

We had a corner room on a high floor which allowed for interesting views of O'Hare Airport. Even though it is very close to the airport, we did not notice much airport noise. It seems as though the hotel is solidly built. If you wanted to use wireless internet in your room, there was a charge of $4.95 per day. The parking fee was $15 per day with in and out privileges. So keep these charges in mind when considering the hotel's rates. There are other hotels across the street that had nice restaurants (i.e. Harry Caray's Italian Steakhouse).

We needed a hotel near O'Hare airport, with a shuttle, as we were just staying overnight to catch an early flight the next day. We found the sheraton gateway o'hare perfect and very convenient. The room was so spacious as it was a suite with a separate, large sitting room with its own TV and even a mini-bar/sink area. The hotel is quite attractive too.

The room was on the 11th floor (cool) but, the decor was outdated, the t.v.'s were the only "new" thing in the rooms. It was valentines day & we decided to choose a facility that had an indoor pool & jacuzzi. The pool was very cold, they even had police tape around a portion of the pool. The entire area was very cold & the jacuzzi was a large filthy- cold tub with blopping grey bubbles vommitting all over the floor! Nasty, later we complained to staff-- the manager ignored/denied it- other patrons were also complaining. The next day the entire area had hazard tape around it... Health inspectors should be notified about these unsanitary conditions. This area needs to be completely renovated!

Well, got stuck in Chicago overnight as delays in Toronto caused me to miss my connecting flight to Dublin. I was fortunate the American Airlines staff were so organised and it was they, after rebooking flights for the following day, who recommended and booked me into this hotel on a special "Distressed Traveller" rate (63 bucks!).

Starting off, the hotel shuttle leaving the terminal could have been a little more clearly marked as I ended up on a shuttle for the Sheraton Four Points which is a different hotel altogether. Lucky we hadn't left the aiport complex at that stage and I was able to get off and wait at another terminal for the proper shuttle! That could have been my fault though- it was snowing, I was cold and tired and having no coat or bags, I was feeling a bit miserable and bereft. The driver could have made an announcement though as I'm sure I'm not to the first to make that mistake!

Check in was smooth and effortless and I loved the freely dispensed Starbucks coffee available at reception. The room itself was a revelation as it really was a suite! It had a seperate seating area which housed a comfy sofa, coffee table and lamps along with a work desk and huge flatscreen tv. The bathroom was fine, while the bedroom was fab. A huge comfy bed loaded with fluffy pillows and crisp white linens (all for me!) and yet another flatscreen tv with no shortage of decent channels! The flight mess-up was starting to feel very far away, particularly when my room service dinner of a giant, American-sized chicken and cheese toastie arrived, along with fries and a cup of soup! What was so cute was the miniature bottle of Heinz ketchup, sealed in plastic and just for me. All very reasonably priced and delivered with a smile.

That room rate didn't include any breakfast but I wasn't too concerned- I was perfectly happy with the Starbucks coffee machine in the room and had already decided I would get something on my return to the airport. I checked out via the service through the television and that was that- handy shuttle back to the airport where I caught a flight to London and then on to Dublin.

I definitely recommend this as an airport hotel. Not sure how far away it is to the city itself, but I suspect less than 40 minutes.

  • Liked — Close to the airport, great service, fab room
  • Disliked — Call me fussy, but I didn't like the wallpaper! The room was a mixture of the modern and the dated.

Stayed for three days for a business meeting. The rooms are very large and spacious. Two flat screens - one in the bedrooma and one in the living room. Coffee maker and Starbucks coffee in the living room. Across the street is McDonalds. I did not eat in the hotel restaurants but the catering was pretty good. The beds are just so-so (I am getting spoiled by some of those phenomenal beds out there!) and the shuttle ran promptly every 20 minutes. You can take the shuttle to the airport to catch the subway (L) to get downtown. Overall it was fine.

  • Liked — Two flat screens and the very large rooms
  • Disliked — The decor was just okay and the beds were just okay
