We visited in April during the butterfly exhibit. It was a fun time walking around in the enclosure and having Butterflies landing on you. We took some really nice pictures while we were there. I really enjoy all of the Tropical plants they have.

The Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens NEVER has weather surprises... guarenteed warm and beautiful all year round. April is butterfly month and that is certainally a treat for all ages. The immergant area where you can see first hand caterpillars, pupae and immerging butterflies. Inside the gardens visit the butterfly house where hndreds of butterflies will fly around you. Buckeye, Monarch, Admiral butterflies galore!

We flew to Chicago via the Rockford airport last minute for a family function. Since we had a few hours before our flight, we checked on "what's happening" and discovered that the Conservatory was featuring butterflies. So, why not! Our visit was delightful. We learned once again about the various butterflies and experienced them on our hands (very friendly little guys.) The conservatory was not large but beautifully organized and maintained. Plus, the staff was engaging and helpful. An added bonus ... it was $3.00 Tuesday. Wow!

This cost a fortune and you can visit it in 5 minutes. My advice is to go on a free day and you will get your money's worth. They could place this conservatory in a corner of Lincoln Park Conservatory in Chicago. Just not worth the money either for the admission or construction.

We're sorry you didn't enjoy your visit. Reconstruction of the outdoor lagoon and gardens was completed in fall of 2012 and is a beautiful place to stroll in the spring, summer and fall. When the weather allows, the lagoon is also a great place to ice skate in the wintertime. The Conservatory is ever-changing as the plants continue to grow, thrive and bloom. We offer a discounted admission day every Tuesday. If you have any further concerns, please feel free to call 815-987-1689.

Loved the green, the warmth, the sculptures, and the fabulous orchid show. The location in Sinnissippi Gardens on the Rock River made me think about returning during warm weather for a bike ride along the river to see the public art.
