“Traveling salesman”

Stopped here for dinner and after reading reviews on three seperate sites I was expecting too much. The menu was large but was missing some things like anything with verde sauce or guisado de piercing. I ordered the "El Halisco" which is a skirt steak in strips with onions, jalapeños, and tomatoes; this one also had bacon. This dish is almost the same as Bistec A lLa Mexicana. I've had this many times but here, it was dry.
They did make homade tortillas which I ordered corn( not flour lime most gringos. They were too thick and could have been cooked longer.
The chips had no salt and the salsa needed work.
If this is the best Rockford has to offe, I couldn't move here.

“Delicious, authentic, handmade Mexican food at good prices.”
Reviewed January 25, 2012

El Reboso is Authentic Mexican food at its best. They start you out with homemade tortilla chips and really delicious fresh salsa. They have a very large menu with everything from steak, chicken to seafood to pork, soup and beyond. You can order meals that come with rice and beans or a huge variety of ala carte items.
(tortas, chimichangas, burritos, quesadillas, tamales, tacos, enchiladas, tostadas just to name some of the ala carte choices)

We have found all of their steak dishes to be great - 'El Jalisco' with steak, and sauteed jalapenos, tomato, green pepper and onions all served with lettuce and handmade tortillas is exceptional and enough for a big meal plus breakfast the next morning. ($12)

Their red snapper is a fun and exciting dish as the fish comes fried whole with everything you will need to make fish tacos including lettuce and handmade tortillas.

Their combos are reasonably priced ($9) and very filling. They also have a large menu of ala carte selections that are very, very reasonably priced. You can be stuffed full for under $6 as I have done often.

Go on Friday nights and you can get their handmade tamales, chicken or pork, wrapped in corn husks. They are the best you will find and only $1.50 each!

They serve beer. Often the TV set is showing telenovelas but they also have a jukebox with a big mix of what I assume are Mexican favorites. Seating is a combination of booths and tables - you get to choose your own table. Red & green squirter bottles of salsa are also available with your meal if you desire and each table has many different hot sauces as condiments.

All wait staff speaks fine English and are friendly. Parking is ample. You can park along the building or off to the east side if it is very busy. Bathrooms are clean and stocked with tp, soap and hand towels. Pay at the cash register when you are finished.

We have been going to this place for years and have never been disappointed. In fact it is so good we are going there tonight. They have the best salsa and they are not chintzy with it! When you pay your bill you get a free piece of candy. How nice is that?
