“Clean and safe non-chain motel”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

It's sometimes a bit risky when booking an independent hotel (especially relatively near to the centre), but the Alpine Inn seems to be a safe choice. The rooms have recently been upgraded, and are spacious - mine had a very new carpet, and the rear parking lot was closed as they had only just resurfaced it, so it's clear the owners are investing in the property.

Breakfast was basic, but adequate. The breakfast area in reception was pleasant with bookcases designed to give it a homely atmosphere. It's at the West end of the main strip on US20, so there are plenty of eating opportunities nearby.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are well away from road traffic noise.

This is a nice Mom & Pop type motel. The lobby is very warm and inviting with book shelves loaded with books. They have a nice and very roomy breakfast area. Our room was clean and had a super large bathroom area. My only complaint is that their bathroom products (which you have to ask for at the office) such as soap and shampoo are made in CHINA. I've always heard not to use products from China that have to go on your skin since their safety standards are not the same as here in the USA. No biggie, we stopped at the store and bought shampoo. It can't be easy running a family motel in this day and age so I admire them for working hard to keep their motel nice. Oh, we got a good price on the room, too.

Room Tip: It is a single level motel so all the rooms are on the first floor with parking in front of your doo...

This was our first hotel on a 4 week holiday. A poor start! The room was in a corridor next to noise-making ventilation and ice machine. When we complained, the girl in the reception was not very willing to help us. She spoke incredibly fast and did nothing to make us foreigners understand better. Eventually we got another room which had a terrible smell of tobacco even though it claims to be a non smoking property. Breakfast was sparse, but OK. If you need a stepping stone in Rockford, try another place.

My husband and I had stayed here last week. We are seniors and just wanted to get away for a couple of days and my husband wanted to fish at the nearby state park. We were very pleased with the neatness of the grounds, a very nice size and well furnished room and how friendly and helpful the staff were especially the receptionist, Mary, who did everything she could to give us a great rate and make our stay as pleasant as possible.
We will definitely stay there again and to recommend it to our friends.
Forgot to say, we enjoyed it so much, we stayed an extra night!!!

We only stayed one night. The room was clean and well-appointed. The bathroom was big. The breakfast was standard continental, but my kids think doughnuts are the best breakfast food anyways. When we pulled up, my middle child declared that he had never stayed in an old-fashioned motel before. I'll admit, I was a little worried when we pulled up, but everything was very clean and we had a nice quiet night. The staff was bright and cheerful. I would stay here again.

Hi, my husband and I stayed here last week while we were in town visiting. The room was very quiet and newly remodeled. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful. We were surprise how quiet it was being on State St. It's also close to were we wanted to visit! We will stay here again and recommend it to our friends.

The Alpine Inn does just about everything right for a really reasonable price. We arrived late, but the night clerk was friendly and responsive to our requests, and our room was clean, quiet and comfortable (my only complaint: only two sets of towels in a room for four reserved ahead of time). The room had some nice touches, such as a microwave and a mini-fridge, and the TV was in a cabinet. The bathroom looked to have been recently updated. The A/C unit was newer and pretty quiet, and had a feature to keep the fan running constantly for a low white noise. We slept well.

The breakfast is neither fancy nor expansive, but has the basics to get you going: coffee, cereals, muffins. The eating area is very pleasant. A minor nitpick: I wish there had been some fresh fruit like bananas or oranges.

Like an earlier reviewer, I'm rating the Alpine Inn as tops in its class of value motels. It isn't trying to be a Hyatt or Hilton, and if a stiff door or towels that are less than plush are going to ruin your visit, then you should look elsewhere. The Alpine Inn is a few minutes off the Interstate, but I think it was worth the extra couple of minutes drive.

Again another very accurate review that is much appreciated. I understand that our complimentary breakfast is pretty standard, which is why we dont charge extra. However, we would be more than glad to fulfill any special requests for food within the restrictions set by the Health Dept for our facility. While we are not set-up for fresh fruit, I have on several occasions picked up prepackaged fruit, or gluten-free items upon advance request. We are so appreciative for guests like this reviewer and will do anything within our means to show our appreciation.
