The food is excellent, beautifully presented but slightly slow to arrive . The sommelier is at the top of his game but the " back " restaurant has had an atmosphere by-pass.

Firstly, if you want glaring, glistening, gleaming surroundings, then Sharrow is not for you. If , instead, you want to be cosseted, cared for and charmed, both by the staff and the surroundings, then you will have hit the jackpot at Sharrow. My husband and I have been twice to this beautiful old hotel and on both occasions, left feeling we had had a total re-charge of our batteries. The food is excellent in both presentation and taste and if you enjoy a " real " cuppa, then you will be bowled over by the loose leaf tea, china teapots and solid silver tea strainers. This place can even turn having a cup of tea into an occasion. It is quite simply a little piece of perfection.

We where given a gift voucher as a present for a overnight stay am=nd meal at the Sharrow Bay hotel in a lake side room, Silver. The room was light and airy with spectacular views of Ullswater but could do with some renovation. I believe this will take place in the next 12 months.

The 6 course meal more than made compensated for any deficiency in the accommodation.
The service was excellent food fantastic. The wine list, choice of spirits and cheese splendid and much better than the Sommer Lodge or Hotel Tress Islas

Had the 10 course taster menu, absolutely magnificent, recommended if you have money spare. The restaurant is really charming and the view of Ulswater is stunning. We went with our great friends of thirty seven years and had a memorable experience.

We had lunch today at the beautiful lake side restaurant at Sharrow Bay. Quite simply one of the best dining experiences either of us has had anywhere in the world. The location is stunning, with panoramic views of Ullswater and the surrounding fells, and the food was absolutely divine. We opted for the 3 course Cumbrian lunch menu which offered a wide choice of starters and main courses, plus three equally tempting options for dessert. The set price of £29.50 included an introductory amuse bouche while we were mulling over our choices from the main menu, a generous plate of various home made breads and rolls, and a sorbet between the starter and main course. The alternative "Gourmet lunch" included an additional course, a wider variety of more elaborate starters and mains, plus coffee and petits fours. The service was impeccable. And for the first time since returning to the UK several years ago, I left a restaurant feeling that I had eaten something far superior to anything I could hope to create at home. Compared to the mediocre yet still highly priced food served in many pubs and restaurants in the UK, today's experience at Sharrow Bay represented real value for money.

Thank goodness this gem of a place has survived the recent uncertainty and upheaval surrounding the break up of its parent hotel chain. It has emerged as what must surely be one of the best small hotels in the country.
